Devils team discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2023 offseason part II

We just saw a 50 point wing get traded with 50% retained (3.5mil for three years) for a 6th round pick. Then we saw a young center (with one more year on ELC) who put up 30 points last year get traded for a late first and early second.

Yeah no idea what Shara is worth. I could see a team with a late extra first or early second do it.
Basically this. I actually think Sharangovich got a pretty raw deal here after falling out of favor with the coaching staff.

A 20-20 guy in his prime should be worth something, but considering circumstances, I highly doubt he gets a very late 1st or even a mid 2nd.

Nice lottery ticket for San Jose to get Blackwood for a 6th. If he continues to be injured/suck, who cares. You're tanking anyway and gave up a nothing asset. If he somehow gets healthy and reverts to being a decent 1B, that's found money.

Yeah, Ullmark will likely not be nearly that good next year.

He's a good/solid goalie, but I have him more in the category of guys like Kuemper, Markstrom and the beloved darling Oettinger (who I don't think many people are currently crazy over after his dud of a playoffs) than those first 5 guys you mentioned.

I'm pretty sure Markstrom is probably not gonna be good again, even if he's not as bad as last year, but that's for a different topic.
All those mid tier guys are such crapshoots. We're going to see three unexpected goalies have wonderful years, three guys that people will pink in the first five rounds in fantasy hockey absolutely eat shit, and the guys bounce back out of nowhere to be useful. It's weird to be a goalie in the nhl

He won't.

People have been saying this for years now. It's like when they thought Schneider was gonna finally bounce back and be good again. I know he was a bit older and well into his 30's and Blackwood is not, but Blackwood has been more bad in his pro career (including AHL) than good.

I'm not saying he'll never have a decent NHL season ever again, he just may, but I don't think he'll consistently be a good goalie ever in this league. It'll be an up season, like Jonathan Quick had in 21-22 before continuing his decline that had begun 3 years before the up season, but it being even more advanced than before that up season.

Okay, I know he was old too, so how about Korpisalo last year? There's a good example of a somewhat average age goalie that had an up season.
