What is so special about Ross Colton and how does he really help us?

I liked the idea of Colton in the role that we used Haula for. I'm not sure I'd target him with Haula in the fold, but Colton is a goal scorer, has okay size and will do some good dirty work, and he can take faceoffs. I like the way he would round out a line with Jack and maybe he can be a 25/20/45 guy and get messy.

He's 27, but he's been in a sheltered role down on Tampa's bench. There's a situation change that is big enough to make me think that there is something that can get popped a little bit. His projected contract even if he's nothing much more than third line 15-20 goal scorer is still fine, so there's not much downside the contract part of this (the trade part is different).

sign and trade? why? No one is giving him 8 years

thought the same
Think some of the upside a team could see in trading might be that they see him as a top 6 winger who’s been held back. So they might be hoping they could get him for a little bit of term at a cheap price. Say 4 years at 3M. So if that’s what you’re going for you figure it out first rather than trading for him and finding out he wants a 1 or 2 year bridge.

It's Pagnotta so I don't fully believe anything until it's verified.

Feel like he’s hit decently lately though. Am I buzzing lol?
Ya was gonna say I feel like he’s done decently as of late. I also doubt he’s just making it up. Doesn’t mean anything’s close but there’s probably some truth to it.

Not sure I understand what value a sign and trade has for Sharangovich but sure. If we're shipping him off for picks I would just as soon keep the player even if he signs a deal walking him to free agency, but I'm also not going to be too shaken up about it.

It’d be wild if we get a low 1st for Rango. With the Newhook return though, I don’t think it’s far-fetched…

If you get picks, you can always use those picks for more players later. Picks are more fungible than players because fit doesn't matter.

As I said above if a team sees him as a top 6 guy held back they might want to give him some term at a cheap price. Say 4 years at 3M. Better to figure that out before you actually bring him in.

We just saw a 50 point wing get traded with 50% retained (3.5mil for three years) for a 6th round pick. Then we saw a young center (with one more year on ELC) who put up 30 points last year get traded for a late first and early second.

Yeah no idea what Shara is worth. I could see a team with a late extra first or early second do it.

It’s really not. Sharangovich is better than newhook but newhook was a first round pick and sharangovich was 5th round so not sure how much of that shine of being a first round pick with potential upped the price in negotiations.

If newhook could put it all together he could maybe be as good as Henrique was but he just gets knocked off the puck way too easily. Colorado gave him many opportunities to take the second line center position and he didn’t take it and run with it.
