wouldn't it be a good idea for the devils o call on Ullmark Boston needs some space
Ullmark is too unproven for my likes . Only way I’d give up premium assets is for a Vas / Sheshterkin / Saros / Sorokin / Helle level goalie . I see Ullmark as a Markstrom level guy where they are average more often than elite

Agreed. Severson only returned some value because there would have been a bidding war if he hit the open market. Columbus probably got him slightly cheaper by doing the sign and trade.

There will be no bidding war for Blackwood. Therefore, his rights have no trade value.
The 8th year helped the jackets keep down the aav . Blackwood’s QA is too high to be able to get any return in a trade

The Jackets didn't get a discount on the AAV, they got to not negotiate with him against better teams and give him the extra year before FA but it's not like he was getting 7-50 if he got there.

It’s wasn’t a direct discount , the 8th year spreads it out over one more year , lowering the average . If it was a normal trade for his rights , they couldn’t do the 8th year . Sign and trade was better for them so they got the 8th year that only NJ could offer.

You can't be sure of this - all it takes is one team. While I doubt he'd get that, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Yeah, Ullmark will likely not be nearly that good next year.

He's a good/solid goalie, but I have him more in the category of guys like Kuemper, Markstrom and the beloved darling Oettinger (who I don't think many people are currently crazy over after his dud of a playoffs) than those first 5 guys you mentioned.

I'm pretty sure Markstrom is probably not gonna be good again, even if he's not as bad as last year, but that's for a different topic.

Ullmark at 5 million. for the next 2 years. 28yo.
Hellebyuk at 6 million 1 year. 30yo. wants 8.5+

ullmark might be the choice since we is not overpriced lets the devils have flexibility and we will get 2 years to judge him. plus Boston can't be asking for much for him. since they need to dump the salary to resign so many ppl

He also probably doesn’t chose them if they had to compete against more appealing suitors.

Trading for Severson’s rights early and making an aggressive pitch was a smart move if they were determined to get him.

If he waits to see what else is out there he loses the extra year plus they had the time to sell him on their team and it worked.

Someone linked a tweet about Fitz wanting to get into the 1st round awhile ago. I wonder how he would pull that off.

I think that was part of trying to push to get Bratt extended . Somewhat threaten to trade him if he doesn’t want to extend . Float that out there without directly saying it’s Bratt that would be moved by chances are likely it would have to be him as no one else would get a first

Fitz said Bratt not signing would have instigated a trade that likely would have involved a first round pick and was what he was speaking about.

He commented on that later I"m pretty sure and said that Bratt was the way that they were going to get into the first. Which also tracks with what Friedman said about Fitz basically throwing throwing the gauntlet down on Bratt

Yeah I found that out a few days after the trade. Made it a little better. We need cheap bodies in the bottom 6 and he can play center.
He skates very well and can keep up with our game and he's a good first man in on the forecheck. That's a skill (and it is a skill) we have too little of. He and Macleod can do that. Although ideally maybe you don't want your center to be that guy, it's more of a wingers role. I say "maybe" because that's a fine point I'm not really sure of.

This is the first year so far since 2013 we didn't have a first round pick in the draft and that was because of the Schneider trade.

rumors are Vasi money is the ask
So no one. I have heard from him saying he wants to win though. So unless the yotes are going to give him 9 and automatically become cup favorites highly unlikely he will have his cake and eat it too
