You can base it on the salaries of other top goalies, that works too.

“He wants to win” isn’t magically going to alter how comparable NHL contracts work.

Markström got 6 years/6m for a deal in the flat cap era after coming a distant 4th in Vezina voting. He was 30 years 8 months old.

So a 31 year Hellebuyck is getting a lot more than that. He makes 6.167m and is Vezina finalist, he’s expecting a raise.

A team can reduce AAV by making it 8 years or pay more to shave a 1-2 years off.

It’s going to be a bear of a contract and one that should be avoided.

I presume Krug would have retention maybe from both STL and PHI but even so he doesn’t make any sense for NJ and has a long contract at 32 years old.

Even at 25% he doesn’t add anything to NJ. He’s an old small offensively biased defender. He’s behind Hamilton Luke and probably Nemec for the role of offensive defender and he doesn’t bring anything else to warrant him taking a left handed defense roster spot.

I can't imagine that is a real thing. We are a team that won't use Krug's best attributes and he's not at an age where he's getting better.

Bahl is younger, cheaper, and will actually give what the team needs.

I’m assuming the 3rd team isn’t giving up much of anything other than cap space for Krug. He’s more like RyJo than Burns and Burns only got a 3rd (plus the other stuff involved in the deal but I’m not looking into those randos).

Krug doesn’t eat a ton of minutes, he was sheltered like a baby bird in St Louis last season. He’s always been a PP merchant at heart.

If he’s 50% and free then maybe we’re interested. They need to find him a home, no need to do them any favors. (Not saying I would even do it then but it starts there.)
