This is a very good post about Holtz. Look at Mercer. Is he a great skater? Not at all, probably not even better than Holtz. But he looks so much faster out there because he processes the game so much better than HoltzI don't know if I'd call it him naturally being passive. I don't think he tries to play passively. He just doesn't think the game well enough to put himself in the right spots to be anything but passive. When you are constantly out of position and incapable of reading defenses, you will look passive because you are thinking the game two steps behind everyone else. It's the same reason people think he's a bad skater. He's not a bad skater (he's about average), but because he's constantly out of position, he never gets to effectively use his skating.
I hate to bring up some bad apples, but there's a pretty bad trend of players who get drafted really high solely because of their shot turning into, at the bare minimum, dissappointments. Kieffer Bellows, Owen Tippett, Oliver Wahlstrom, Alex Holtz. The guys who haven't had infinitely better all around games and have translated extremely well, namely Cole Caufield and Jack Quinn. Both of those players not only arguably had the best shots in the draft, but had quick releases and could score in a variety of ways. They were the best goal scorers. It is way more important to be a good goal scorer than a good shooter. Being a good shooter means nothing unless you really know how to use your shot. It's easy to light it up in Juniors having a crazy shot because you will naturally have more lanes open up because of worse defense and easier goalies to score on. Doesn't really help with developing that game sense for creating shots for yourself at a higher level.
Interested to see what Fitzmagic can get. I’m gonna guess one of Chicago’s extra picks — they probably want some NHL talent for Bedard to play with. Chicago has an extra 1st, 3 extra 2nds, and an extra 3rd.
Latest on Hellebuyck, Scheifele, Wheeler
Connor Hellebuyck’s next contract will come with a new team. He’s not re-signing in Winnipeg.
One team showing interest in the No. 3 player on our trade board is New Jersey, but it all depends on the price of a new contract. The Devils are a progressive front office that just saw unheralded Adin Hill win the Cup with Vegas. Some don’t love the idea of spending big money on a goalie. They may be willing to do the deal without an extension, but that would lessen the package the Jets would get back.
also in there, Lebrun says that NJ might be willing to trade for Hellebyuck without an extension in place. I don't think we'd heard that before. Hmm...
I get a feeling today’s the day!

I mean yea sign it up butSharangovich, Vanecek, and the 3rd from the Sevs trade for Hellebyuck (un-signed)?

Schmid might be better than Bucky as soon as this year.
Is anyone even entertaining the idea of signing a 30 year old goaltender to a contract of any length > 5 years... At $9m? This guy has never been Vasilevskiy and when the defense in front of him isn't great he kinda folds. Especially in the playoffs.
We all saw Vegas win with Hill.
But what about all of the other teams that almost did it with the Andersen's, Raantas, Skinners, Lyons, grubauer, Brossoit, Korpisalo, Woll, Wedgewood, Copley etc.
The likely Vezina guy and Shesterkin and sorokin out in round 1.

Can a sniper have as good of a shot if they play on their offwing?
Right now we have Bratt and Mercer higher in the RW lineup and I don't see Holtz supplanting them. Our 3rd line Center was a mystery every game last year since Haula is playing with Hughes. Who is going to Center the 3rd line? Boqvist? Mcleod? Do you think Holtz can live up to his potential with them centering the line?
I saw it.. But what are you going to do? Move him against his wishes or you are advocating that for just a pure rental? I guess I misunderstood and thought you were just saying we'd pay less pieces and have Fitz work magic to talk him down.did you miss the (un-signed) part of my post, or?

Blackwood thr rights to Graves and Wood and Reilly Walsh for Hellyebuck and a first. How can they say no to that?I saw it.. But what are you going to do? I’ll take it. We can have a great draft with all those picks.
I’d be absolutely floored if Schmid was better than Hellebuyck. Hellebuyck is one of the very few actual great goalies. You’re underrating him. The defense in front of him has sucked for years and he’s consistently been very good to great. Schmid is 23 with under 30 games last year. He could just as easily flame out as be a good starter and the odds of him flaming out are definitely far higher than him being as good Hellebuyck
Am I giving him some mega deal? No but he is actually elite
