Who's taking the minutes? Of course it's the minutes, there is no one else to take them on.
Hamilton, Siegenthaler and Marino can take on a bit more but these guys are already close to maxed out with Hamilton and Marino already at over 21 minutes ATOI a game and Siegenthaler over 20. Edit: But Hamilton and Marino don't really factor being Right handed and Luke and Bahl being left handed.
One of Bahl and Luke are going to have to play top 4 minutes, there is no way around it.
It's not really about faith... it's about the jump in work loadYa. Goodly point.
I do, however, probably have more faith in Bahl than you do, and Smith (despite all the complaining about him) and sub in too if either of them stumble for a while.

Basically you need 45 minutes at even strength from your left side and your right side.
If our left side is going to be Siegenthaler, Luke and Bahl and Siegenthaler is coming at 18 minutes the other two have to cover for 27 minutes.
Sounds good to me....Ok. Luke Hughes is going to play 20+ minutes a game, as the vast majority of D drafted that high do in their first season. Problem solved.
Not a night...5 on 5.Why is one of the best defensive defensemen in the game playing 18 minutes a night?
Graves was middle of the road in everything. Bahl should be great defensively hopefully soon and Luke should be amazing offensively very soon.Sounds good to me....
But Fitz said Bahl was replacing Graves. That looks to me like Luke is replacing Graves.
It doesn't mean anything really....but someone that has never played a full season in the NHL is going to have to play a full work load this season .
I am interested in seeing if Luke does in fact play 20+ minutes this season. I think it'll be real tough to do without significant PP time. Dougie averaged 3 minutes of PP time...no one was even close. Next closest was Severson at 1:20....Luke will have a hard time being 20+ with only 1:20 of PP time if that's how it shakes out?

This pisses me off so much. When I go to use the forum on desktop and I get this. It was happening a few months ago, then it stopped, I forgot all about it and now it’s back again.
It’s not as pleasurable to contribute when all I have to use is a phone. It’s not fun making a post more than a few sentences long on a phone. Not to mention that it drains the battery several percent from the time I start the post until the time I finish the post.
It’s okay sometimes, like if I’m at work or laying in bed and the computer is shut down, but I don’t understand how people make posts more than a sentence or two long on their phones. It’s too time consuming. Especially when I can type like 50-60 words per minute on a keyboard.
I don’t even know if I can type 50 letters per minute on a phone.
Thanks! I’ll try this in a bit. With the way this computer runs (it’s almost 9 years old but it still runs!” I could see it being a project getting into all this lol.Graves was middle of the road in everything. The quote you keep talking about has another quote directly after talking about Luke taking up the slack on the offensive side.
If Bahl plays any amount more than he did last year, that eats away at "Graves minutes" for Luke to take. It's not like it was 30-25-5 anyways. Graves "minutes" with two guys who presumably will be better than last year I don't think is that big of an issue.
IF we were going to be worried about anything, and I'm not saying you are, but IF, it would be about Severson's minutes. I think it will be fine with the replacements in addition to the talent on the left side seemingly getting a boost. But the right side is the only question mark, if there is one at all.

Settings----then Privacy and Security----then "Third-party cookies," ---------then almost towards the bottom, "See all site data and permissions," ------- then in the upper right corner type hfboards and hit the (probably) two trash cans.
I moved away to a new country for the next couple months and I have been unable to use HF on my phone ever since getting here. I have a feeling that it's something to do with my new phone plan but I am honestly not sure, as it still works just fine on my laptop. Frustrating as f***, though.View attachment 741789

i don't think graves was actually as good defensively as you are making him out to be, and i think bahl can actually play 4 more minutes a night than he did last year - hes young and still improving. im not sure what kind of answers you are expecting, you know who is on the roster and who will be in the lineupI'm not worried about the right side at all with Hamilton and Marino there.
Those two played around 36/37 minutes at even strength last season. Assuming there is roughly 45 minutes of even strength time per game that means Miller/Nemec can be a 9/10 minutes a game ES player... that's probably not how it's going to work out but it's feasible.
The right side is easier to overload the top 2 with tougher minutes.
The left side is only Siegenthaler as an experienced D man.
On the left side Graves was 17:29 at ES and 2:24 on the PK.
Bahl was 13:06 at ES and :52on the PK
Bahl can't replace Graves "defense" from the 3rd pair....hell need an additional 4+ minutes at even strength to do that and 2 minutes on the PK...
I'm assuming Luke won't be killing penalties...so Bahl is really "it" after Siegenthaler as a LHD-PKer. He's going to "Have to" make a large jump in PK minutes.
Splitting the 5v5 minutes between Luke and Bahl shouldn't be difficult. You need 30 minutes of ES time between them 15/15 is easy to do.
But in this scenario Luke may not get enough minutes if Dougie is dominating the PP time...Luke at 15 minutes ES and taking Severson's PP minutes puts him around 16:20 a night...and Bahl at 15 minutes taking Graves PK puts him at 17:24 a night.

4 minutes of Even Strength time is a lot...from an ES perspective, there was about a 1 minute difference from our #1 to our #5 last year. Basically the ES minutes among our top 5 were pretty close to evenly distributed.
I'm not looking for any answer to anything really...I just found it a bit odd that Fitz said Bahl a far down #6 and a #6 PKer would be replacing Graves.
Playing 13 minutes a night vs playing 17:29 a night at Even Strength is akin to the difference between multiplication and algebra.Maybe he watched Graves play last season and realized that nothing Bahl could do would be much of a downgrade.

Well the schedule is a big part of it.Actually, I'm not as concerned with minutes played per game as I am number of games played.
For a kid, the energy to play a full game should be there, but the consistency over a long season is hard to get down.

They're just not doing the same thing.
Oh yea, the entire defense is a big question mark at this point. Most are all very excited and have faith that it will work out better with maybe some hiccups along the way, but no doubt losing both Graves and Severson is going to be something to adjust for.Well the schedule is a big part of it.
But more minutes almost always means more difficult situations.
None of this is to say Luke or Bahl "can't" do it...but it an unknown and also a pretty big jump from what they have done so far.
