I don’t want anything to do with Winnipeg or some 30+ year old goalie who’s gonna be good for 18 more months and then fall apart. If the deal is for an unextended Hellebuyck and Fitz just wants to buy a year to see if Schmid is legit, that’s one thing. But i doubt that’s the plan.

Zero evidence that Scheifele is a ‘turd’. Actually that is so untrue. Not sure why people say stuff like this
there’s too much smoke around the Jets’ culture for there to not be any fire. From the top of that org to the bottom, there’s no killer instinct whatsoever. Everyone’s content to show up, get a paycheck, and go home, and it starts with Chevy. No surprise players and coaches want out.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence in this case. Winnipeg's locker room has been publicly reported as a poor one. The fact that players and coaches choose not to be specific in naming players who are at fault in that does not exempt anyone. Saying there is zero evidence is unrealistic. There is no publicly available evidence. You can rest assured that people on the inside know who the problems are.

I’d do one year but it’d have to be for a pretty cheap price relative to how good he is

Forget Hellebuyck

We're gonna re-sign Blackwood for $1.5 million and he's gonna bounce back.

I've been telling @My3Sons this for years now. He can back me up. He never lets me forget about it.
In the interests of full disclosure, you've been advocating a multi-year extension at a much higher AAV for Blackwood. Your stubborn insistence that "he's really a .920 goalie" (a direct quote of your words) will have other posters eating crow!!

To Winnipeg - Blackwood, Vanacek
To New Jersey - Hellebuyck (25 or 50%), 2024 2nd

Winnipeg gets younger and cheaper, and they have their tandem for potentially several years since Blackwood is RFA and Vanacek has a few years under contract. We get a better goalie for less than we paid last year, and we can decide in a year (or during the year) to extend or not. Schmid would be in the tandem on the NHL team.

It won't happen, but hey.

People said the same thing about Phil Kessel for a while.

But he can't hear it with his 3 Stanley Cup rings rubbin against each other making all that noise.

Chevy might get canned if that was all he got back for Hellebuyck AND had to retain on top of that lol.

I'd have to think he'd want a first instead of a 2nd and Vanecek and possibly a prospect and maybe one other middling prospect.

I don't think anybody wants Blackwood in a trade. They can get him for probably $1.5 million for a year, coming up in about a little over a week.

Fire Chevy on the spot. An at min top 5 goalie for an average starting goalie, a probably not even NHL caliber goalie, no futures, and you give up a 2nd?

Phil Kessel was actually still a really good player and only in his 20's when people said those things about him.

Wheeler is an old washed up sack of shit at this point.

Well, I take that back a little bit. He wasn't as bad as I thought last year, but he turns 37 in 2 months. His best days are way over. If he starts winning cups it will probably come in a role like Kessel played this past year for Vegas.

old washed up sack of shit that had 2 goals, 4 assists in 5 playoff games this year?
old washed up sack of shit that had 16 goals, 39 assists for 55 pts in 72 games this year?
and 17 goals, 43 assists for 60 pts in 65 games a year ago?

That kind of offensive production is in line with Mercer and Bratt. So yeah if Mercer and Bratt are sacks of shit, so is Wheeler I guess.

I think you’re giving too much benefit of the doubt here. It’s pretty obvious from what we’ve seen and heard publicly that there are major leadership problems in Winnipeg. We obviously don’t know the specifics or if any one player is more to blame than another, but there are more than enough red flags there that should be factored into any equation involving acquiring someone who was in a leadership position with that org.

That being said, there are countless examples of players who were “problems” on other teams that found success playing lesser/different roles on a new team.

All that taken into account and considering where he in his age/career…I don’t think Wheeler would be a good fit on this team at this time.

Um have you watched his on ice behavior and off ice comments? He absolutely comes across as a turd. Combined with the publicly known leadership issues in Winnipeg…it’s not exactly a stretch to call into question his character.

And on top of everything else he'll be 37. Highly doubt he'd keep up with our pace of play.
