f*** it, bring Zach home![]()
Honestly would be so cool to see Zach in a bottom 6 role with this team.f*** it, bring Zach home![]()
It would be kind of funny if he came back and wore #11, just to drive the jersey collectors nuts.Honestly would be so cool to see Zach in a bottom 6 role with this team.
I’m pretty sure I remember him saying he only wanted to go back to the Islanders, but would love to see him take one more legit run in this jersey with Nico and Jack.
Feels like we still might see another forward addition. Right now we’re looking at something like:
Meier - Hughes - Mercer
Bratt - Hischier - Toffoli
Palat - Haula - Holtz/Clarke
Foote - McLeod - Bastian
Lazar
We still technically have one forward slot open, unless the plan is to run 8D. We could use one more insurance policy rather than have Holtz, Clarke, Foote just gifted two spots.
The good thing is we have most of our bases covered. Plenty of PK options, some physical options in the bottom six, speed, face off specialists, etc. Not really sure what to exactly target from the Suter, Ritchie, Tatar, Sundqvist, Parise, etc. group.
Evan Rodrigues could be a fine Boqvist replacement, with the ability to play both center and wing. Could get him for $2m, his salary last season. If we could find a good cheap depth center. Allows Haula to move to the wing and gives us flexibility if injuries hit.

might be a bit expensive. think I would prefer Even RodThe flag lol
WINNIPEG — Winnipeg signed Vladislav Namestnikov, Laurent Brossoit, Collin Delia and Jeffrey Viel on Saturday but the day’s biggest news was still about Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele: Kevin Cheveldayoff is talking about both players as if they’ll be back with the Jets next season.
There may even be reason to believe the Jets hope to sign both players to extensions.
There’s still plenty to sort out for both players — and we’ll dig into all of it — but the mere notion of an extension is a major pivot from previous reports that Hellebuyck would not sign another contract in Winnipeg.
Let’s start with what we know: Cheveldayoff told me at a news conference in Nashville that “Helly and Scheif are big parts of our franchise.” He acknowledged that trade discussions do occur but said, “Our focus is they’re Winnipeg Jets and we’re looking forward to moving forward with them.”
He doubled down on that idea, offering this record-scratch moment when discussing Winnipeg’s signings on Saturday.
“The opportunity to come back and work with Hellebuyck was something that appealed to LB as well. I think they’ll be a good tandem,” Cheveldayoff said of Brossoit.
Cheveldayoff signalled two things here: First, that Hellebuyck is coming back, and second, that Brossoit will be looking for a bigger share of the goaltending workload than he got in his last stint with the Jets. Brossoit’s contract is for one year at $1.75 million, making him an extremely affordable piece of Winnipeg’s newest tandem. Delia, who signed a one-way contract for one year at $775,000, is slated to be Winnipeg’s third goaltender (or, more likely: Manitoba’s starter after passing through waivers).
Cheveldayoff referred to the idea of a Hellebuyck/Brossoit tandem multiple times. He also repeated the notion that he’s in contact with Hellebuyck and Scheifele’s camps and is open to signing them to extensions while acknowledging that he’s listening to offers on both players, too.
“You have to (listen) as a general manager. That’s your job,” he said Saturday. “I think (trading them) would create big holes in our organization.”
My takeaway from all of this? The trade market has been cold for Hellebuyck and Scheifele. They each provide strong value for their current contracts; we’re talking about a Vezina Trophy finalist and a 42-goal centre, after all. But their values decline without extensions in place, particularly with the league squeezed so tight to the cap this summer. The cap is projected to increase by $4 million next season and it makes sense to me that each player hopes to get a substantial raise when the time comes.
That said, I believe Cheveldayoff when he says he views Hellebuyck and Scheifele as key pieces, that he would be happy to start the season with them on the roster and that dialogue is ongoing. Certainly, it’s a nice bit of posturing to tell the trade market that Winnipeg is happy to keep its stars and could even re-sign them, but I’m hearing there’s more to it than that.
There’s plenty of runway left in this offseason but perhaps we don’t treat Winnipeg’s decisions as set in stone just yet.

Surprised he didn't sign on the first day. If he's still somewhat undervalued, I'd love ERod.Rodrigues is sneaky good. I’d love to have him.
Chevy had a presser that made it sound like he was not planning on moving Hellebuyck or Scheifele.
Obviously either or both moves could happen but apparently neither are currently in the works as of yesterday.

Where the Jets stand after Day 1 of free agency — and no trades
The Jets made a few signings on July 1 but the day's biggest news was still about Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele.theathletic.com
The Jets are already cooked. They're doomed to NHL purgatory - being an explicitly mushy middle team. They can't help themselves.Fine by me but it reeks of Lou with his big time UFA's that wound up walking. If he loses both of those guys for nothing in a year's time, the Jets are f***ed.
that should be the first line.Foote-Boqvist-Clarke 4th line next yr.
Bratt-Jack-Toffoli
Meier-Nico-Mercer
Palat-Haula-Holtz
Foote-Boqvist-Clarke
My guess is the Devils are going to want to maintain a little bit of cap space moving forward in case a goalie trade comes up or even to save some money for the deadline. If they add another forward I'd expect it to be a 1 year $1M type of deal that's been popular this offseason. Maybe someone like Comtois or Heinen.
I think players like Suter or Rodrigues will be a bit too expensive.
Actually, our limit is probably closer to 1.5M after re-signing Bahl. They were capped out last year, they're fine for a Hellebuyck trade as long as their forward add is at <2.9m assuming that Vanecek is going the other way
If the price and term are right he's an obvious grab.Rodrigues is sneaky good. I’d love to have him.

Here's Tatar in comparison though, so if the same AAV you have to go Tatar imo.
