The only way a trade moving multiple assets out of Mercer, Casey, and Holtz makes sense is if somehow Hanifin is coming back with some threat on his life that makes him sign under $7 million aav. Given that's illegal, I just don't see it unless it's literally one of those assets + Vitek for Markstrom + Hanifin as a rental. I don't see how Markstrom alone pulls a young, productive roster player.

I’m trying to get over this because it’s a fait accompli at this point.

It’s going to be one of those colossally stupid trades that people look back at and go “what on earth were they thinking”

Whatever, just can’t wait for this season to end.

He’s top 50 in the league for goals scored per 60 while playing with very little offensive help.

So you want Holtz to be a goal scorer and he’s scoring goals
Uhh no he isn't lol. That stat is from like November. He's 86th below guys like Daniel Sprong, Sam Gagner, Dmitri Vorkonov, Trevor Moore, and Jacob MacDonald.

Yup. I’m glad we’re getting a goalie and a top 4 LD, that should help tons, but man this trade is gonna hurt like a mfer.

Have a bad feeling.

I'd add Holtz to that list as well. Because keeping Toff and trading Holtz would also be profoundly stupid.
Holtz hasn’t even remotely earned the right to be mentioned in the same production level as Toff.

Holtz might end up there someday but I doubt it’s with the devils. I rather keep him and deal Casey

You have to assume in 3 years Holtz will still be an NHL player...under cost control....

Markstrom will be in the Villages playing shuffleboard and living an active adult lifestyle.
I'm not worried about 3 years from now. I'm worried about winning in the next 3 years.

So holtz maybe puts up 20 a year but we have vitek level goalie for the next 3 years.

This is where I get a little lost..what do you mean by "winning".

Just winning 45 games a season? We can do that with any goaltender...or you talking about competing for a championship? I don't think we are in that window yet personally and blowing assets for immediate help when you're not really in contention is setting the organization up for future failures.

I’ll say, except for Luke and Simon, I’ve absolutely hated this season. Can’t wait for it to end to keep it real with y’all.

Saw a 2022-2023 montage a few days ago and I almost shed a tear.
