I really wasn’t trying to debate the whether all 5 teams were right, chances are some weren’t. I just believe any bad calls stem from old fashioned overthinking rather than murky “politics”. (Will see what these guys do in the NHL before MM’s contract is over in 2025-26 and if it mattered.)

Montreal was convinced of something. They can’t have too many small wingers, MM is risky in some way, they had to get a top pair defenseman. Who knows.

I don’t give a shit, all these losers let Philly have him so I can’t root for him now. (I mean, I don’t wish him misfortune but he’s a Flyer, he can’t win anything lol.)
The thing is, ownerships may have been just as averse to the rumors and risks as the GMs, if not moreso

There was an Athletic article with anonymous quotes from GMs and execs before the draft, and one said something to the effect of .. "If I got approval from ownership to take him that early, I would do it"
its politics.

There are the same risks as with others. Kid dream about NHL, for Russia its a prestige to let him play in NHL and ruin the league. Rights for russian players are forever, you can deal him for tonns of assets if he dont wanna sign your team, you can be adamfoxed by Will Smith.
So I wish stay on course for teams like mtl. Hutson will save them.

And I wish huge production to Michkov. He is a great hockey player and philly now own two of my favorite prospects him and Gauthier. And they are far away with their rebuild. Bedard vs Michkov will make huge impact for hockey like it was with Crosby vs Ovechkin. I hope american boy Jack Hughes will be in the race. Same division, a lot of games, a lot of noise. In modern politics climat it should make a good job for hockey, if they will play on the highest level. It would be great to be the bright force of NHL for Devils organization to resist of evil force of Flyers.

I'm curious do you and others think Michkov is a better prospect than Hughes was at the same age? As a Flyers fan, I've watched Matvei so much that I'm so familiar with his flaws, my perspective can be a bit skewed

Its very hard to compare. One played in junior school league, other one played in second best adult league, one was transitional center with great playmaking and control driving ability, other one was great passer and shooter. After draft Michkov looks better than what Jack did, but Jack played in harder league, drived pretty well and was way less matured than Michkov. Both Michkov and Bedard look more matured and talk more matured than Jack was year ago(when he broke points record for NJD). Jack skates way better than Michkov and Michkov is pretty good skater. Both have great but different IQ, now Jack has great shot.

Overall I think both made and make "special" impression. Im the man who loves two way hard working physical players, but I didn't criticized Jack and Matvei. Never did it. Because I have special place for special players who can create magic on the ice. I understand that Canada and Chicago press will talk about rivalry of good Canadian boy with (fake) smile and best talent and evil putins son who is trying to ruin dreams of good people. But in the real life Jack - American boy, and Matvei - Russian boy will face each other many times in the season and I believe they will play against each other in play off. No one would talk about Ovi and Sid so many times if they wouldn't play in the same division and wouldn't met so many times in play off. And this rivalry made the history of specific period of NHL, its a big part of big history. And I really like that Devils will have good opponent to play against with huge talent, not a very talented and deep team in vacuum that need to be better than they were and thats it. Good rivalry makes good history, better opponents makes wins much tastier. Colorado and Detroit is a good example too. Rangers aren't good example, they are talented but not talented enough team with bad structure and everything they have is a poor Shestyorkin. Washington have a couple of interesting prospects, but everything they are doing is trying to catch Gretzky record for Ovie. Pens are having couple of good prospects, but thats it, Sid and Co are trying to prove they have some fire under the old car. CBJ is interesting team with a lot of very talented young players and they will try to build the name for themselves, and Fantilli is dynamic enough to be the player to build the team around him, their defensive core looks very promising - we still need another team to compete against. Islanders - we don't need to talk about it, Shestyorkin is a happy man if we are watching on Sorokin. Carolina is great team without really bright spots, but very aggressive competent core and coach with specific vision, who built the best team in metro.

This is our future narratives. Great American player Jack Hughes and his very bright and offensive Devils, walking evil Michkov and his broad street Phillies where is always sunshine, CBJ who are trying to prove they are in the race, and Fashistic forechecking Hurricanes without any bright star but every player is a hound without soul but with sharp teeth.

So, guys, for the next three years your Philly needs to draft more players for Matvei to build a team around him, why are you winning games?

Great response. But yes, I'm very upset right now by the amount of games we're winning

i'm serious though. they need to draft more high end talent
As with Brink, Foerster and Andrae (amongst others) the drafted talent in their pipeline continues to be underappreciated (particularly by the anti-Fletcher base of their fans).

Hiring Torts was a poor decision for PHI. That team should be scorching the Earth and trading everything not nailed down. The core isn't ready for a teacher/tone setter, they need a sacrificial lamb to lose them games.

Torts will grind his roster hard enough to squeeze out more points than they should. Good for us, obviously. But bad for themselves in the long run.
