Talking goalies, I don’t think they’ve really been good nor bad. They’ve had some they’d like back but they’ve also stopped a bunch of tough chances.

Overall, I think it’s fair to say that they’ve been slightly positive so I thought I’d throw this out there to be contrarian since I’ve seen a lot of opinions saying the goaltending has been bad.

Last game Schmid gave up 4 goals with an expected goals against of 3.5, it just seemed so much worse cause of when those goals were scored and how bad they looked.

In any case I'd like to get a 3rd goalie for the playoffs, someone better than Erik Kallgren. A lot of time to go and potential injuries to avoid before that is figured out though. Basically pray one of those guys gets hot and/or they can spell each other if one folds to the pressure.

He played well in the 3rd and gave 1 GA on 1.75 xGA all strengths, but in the 1st and 2nd periods he gave up 3 goals on 0.70 xGA 5v5. That's very bad.

This level of analysis is incomplete and misleading.

Take a look at the numbers on high danger chances. UGGGLY.

Don't get me wrong I think he had a bad game and certainly a much worse game than Sorokin (who naively gave up even more goals than expected on that link) but he recovered and in the regular season you can't obsess over every single bad game/period. The 100 foot snapshot can provide a bit of a reality check. It's a marathon to the playoffs, and if the goalies give up about what they are expected to give up it's gonna be ok.

Yeah I mean I was hard on the guy last night, but of the 4 goals he gave up only two of them (The 1st goal and that weird angle one) were really like, you should have had that man. The 4th goal was 6 on 5 with a million guys fighting in front of the net, that happens. And then, I think the 2nd goal, it was a dude wide open in the slot like 15 feet out. Obviously, you WANT those saves, but that's the golden road for a reason.

Sorokin is the best goalie on the world and we beat him clean 5 times last night.

Goaltending is weird and makes no sense.

Not sure if this was talked about but this also happened at Monday's game lol...

Holy shit how did i not know about this. I would have been IN DA PIT for sure and probably knocked out within 20 seconds. But that’s worth it to relive your youth, yes?

Anyone have as much internet brain worms as me that also has the talent to put NJD/Moshzilla meme together?

I think people are being pretty harsh on the first goal. It’s a 3 on 2 where a good goal scorer is left completely wide open and allowed to walk in and do whatever they want.

So I expect that to be a strong opportunity, like if it’s the Devils and Meier or Bratt there I think it’s a good chance.

Then you see the shot that Nelson gets and it’s a very accurate shot. He gets it just off the hip and under the elbow. You don’t give guys who are good scorers space like Nelson got because they put in shots like that.

I'd rather Schmid lay a complete turdburger of a performance in game 4 of 82 vs the Islanders than do it in a winner takes all game 7 v.s the Rangers. Long season I expect he'll bounce back. This isn't the same defensive and goaltending horror show as in Edmonton. At least I hope the hell not!

isnt it kinda weird that they practiced the morning after a road game with no game til Tuesday?

It seems like the pattern both after last night’s game and Monday’s game was a practice the next day, then a day off the day after that. Followed by a practice day and a game day.

It feels like they’re repeating that again with this set of days between games. Tomorrow is almost definitely an off day.

I don’t remember if this was the practice last year or not. Probably because we didn’t have a single stretch where there was only 1 game in 7 nights lol.

Edmonton doesn’t really have a goaltending horror show. Well, they kind of do because they have Campbell signed for the next 3 years after this.

But Skinner has been a decent goalie there. It’s Campbell that has put up an .891%! over his last 75 or 76 games. Since the start of the 2022 calendar year (including playoffs) when he was still in Toronto.

And every time Skinner struggles they don’t let him play through it (other than the playoffs last year, they did let him try to find his game then) they just go back to Campbell.

Ottawa is in for the same several years of pain with Korpisalo.

sheesh, seeing that on replay. What were Bahl and Marino doing? I mean from my point of view, it looks like Marino is the one completely lost but who knows what was going on down there with the communication.

We need to draft a Russian goalie one year

Naw we’re going to draft another Swiss goalie to specifically annoy @Guadana .

Seriously though, most Russian defenders drafted and tied for 3rd most Russian forwards, but not a single goalie?

I think Marino thought Bahl was burned, and decided to eliminate Engvall from the equation. You much rather your goalie face an unblocked shot from that angle than trying to defend a 2 on 1.

Bahl had some poor gap control at the blue line, but recovered quite well. He could have picked up Engvall, and allowed Marino to engage Nelson, but from Marino's perspective it looked like a 2 on 1 developing after Engvall dished to Nelson.
