It wasn't a tough question though...it was a stupid question. If I am recalling correctly it was "how did you feel about the late goal"

How did we feel? GTFOH is a completely appropriate response to "how did you feel"
Is this our first rodeo? We gave up a goal late in a period which turned out to be the game winner. It was a beak breaker. Of course he is going to ask about that goal.

Now, like I said, I'm OK with Haula being cranky, I'd prefer he showed more push back on the ice then he does towards a reporter asking a question that is obviously going to be asked, but it's something.

The last second meltdowns at the end of a period is a legitimate concern now
Just don't ask the players about them.

Of course ask about the goal ..how about "what happened on that goal"

Not "How did you feel"

Like Haula said...that should be self evident...it was a dumb question.

Do we have any inkling at all about when Palat and Bastian will be ready to come back? I haven’t seen any updates on their status yet I’ve seen folks bring them up as if we should expect them to return soon…?
I think Palat was slated to miss 8-10 weeks and that was back in early November so hopefully soonish.

Welcome to this year’s edition of the NHL Future Rankings, where we attempt to predict how the NHL standings will look in three years’ time. This is done by evaluating a team’s current and future players, the market and the people who own and run the team.

Panelists from The Athletic were assigned to different categories. Voters were asked to rate each team on a scale of 1-10 with a view to how this area could impact the team winning games in the 2025-26 season. The following weighting system was used to create an overall score:

Current NHL roster (40 percent): Voted by Dom Luszczyszyn
U23 talent as of Sept. 15, 2022 (22.5 percent): Voted by Corey Pronman
Ownership/market (12.5 percent): Voted by Mark Lazerus and Michael Russo
Coaching/management (6.25 percent): Voted by Thomas Drance and Shayna Goldman
Salary cap (6.25 percent): Voted by James Mirtle and Harman Dayal

1. New Jersey Devils

CATEGORYSCORE
Young core (U23) and prospects8
Roster9
Ownership and market5
Management and coaching6.50
Salary cap situation7.25
Total6.98
The Devils are the talk of the town right now and it should be no surprise that the voters believe they have a bright future ahead of them after a scorching-hot start to the season and a lot of very young core players on the team. That’s not even considering the fact that two of their best young players, Simon Nemec and Luke Hughes, aren’t on the roster yet. There’s potential for something special in Newark.

Dom Luszczyszyn on New Jersey’s NHL roster: The Devils have arrived as one of the league’s elite teams. Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier are turning into one of the game’s best one-two punches and there’s terrific forward depth all around them. Dougie Hamilton is back to Norris Trophy form leading a deep blue line and Vitek Vanecek is proving to be the long-awaited answer in net. The Devils have big potential to be a league powerhouse for years to come.

Given he got Haula to show his frustration level, instead of the typical, by wrote, interview answer, I'd say it was a pretty good question.

I don't even know how it's self evident, at least any more self evident then every other question that has been asked a million times over.

Wood on pace for 19 goals and 38 points. He clearly brings more production and value than a typical 4th liner. Not sure how we handle that contract situation.

Stars second goal last night was textbook Devils anxiety/fear.

Last year I said this year was do or die, playoffs or bust. We are one injury away from kicking rocks, know that.

How do you people get through the day? Literally as good of a start in franchise history and you get like this after a slight rough patch. It’s like you’ve never followed an NHL season.

Huh? We already have two significant injuries, so you’re saying a third would dig our grave? Ok? Most teams start struggling when that many players are out, so not sure what your point is…

Need to see how the season plays out. Does he get hot again, and finishes closer to 25 goals? Or does he settle in closer to 15?

But I think it's pretty clear Fitz wants to keep him, and I think Wood wants to stay as well.

I am saying, an injury to one of our star centers and you can kiss the season good bye. What two significant injuries? Blackwood? Bastian? Palat is 1. Hischier Opening Day?

We're fragile up the middle, a big "Handle with Care" sign.

Well this is the question. Is this just a to be expected mini slump after a great start? Or is this beginning of something worse? And while we fans are merely grumbling online or grumbling at the game, but the team can't be looking at his like "hey shit happens". They need to figure it out. We've slowed down a bit, teams have adjusted and are prepared for what we are trying to do. Now we need to make adjustments to our game in order to get back on track.

But if the team, from players to coaches, is rolling with the mindset of "look at our record" or "look at the shot totals" that would be not good. Obviously I don't think they are, but they do need to work their way back to winning games, it's not going to be handed to them.
I think this maybe be the regression to the middle ground. Perhaps I'm wrong but I think there was some merit to the questions even during the unreal start like strength of schedule, sustainability, etc. I do think they can play with EVERYONE in the league, I think they're a playoff team, but I do have concerns about their ability to win a series. Have to cross that bridge when they get to it though, this team feels different though than previous years. I'm not going into every game thinking we'll lose or we'll blow a 3-1 lead with 5 mins left like the last few years.

Bastian... Bastian was a key cog in this teams ability to run 4 lines, the net front guy on the PP, etc. Sure he's a fourth liner but he was/is obviously an important piece.

Bastian is a bigger injury than may be perceived. That 4th line was probably the best in the league and him being out basically killed it. Not to mention he brings an element the team is lacking elsewhere in the lineup. Palat is a top six forward, that is significant.

An additional injury to one of the star centers could spell a ton of trouble for the team, yes. How is this different than like 95% of teams in the league? Not to mention, it’s speculative. The other star center and other players could very well pick up some of that slack if that were to happen. Good teams have a knack for doing that, and you can’t assume they won’t be capabale of it based on previous years because there’s clear improvement/maturation from these players this year.

Honestly if the wheels fell off I think that’d be more an indictment of the coach than anything else. He hasn’t proven he can make sufficient adjustments when things take a turn, other teams adjust against us, the schedule becomes more challenging, injuries, etc. This is still a ridiculously young and inexperienced group, they need as much help as possible pushing through adversity. The coaching staff should be leading the way on that.

Palat was supposedly skating last week. His initial timeline was 8-12 weeks. We are entering week 8. I would imagine he will be back sometime after New Years.

Bastian they havent said jack. I would imagine its a serious injury and we might not seem him til the spring if at all.

I never saw the interview nor bothered (I was still and am still pissed they are on a 3-game-losing streak) but if he was asked THIS question, I would of been like "How do YOU think I felt?", then say "Next Question" to anyone else and just ignored this "intern".

Losing one of the star centers would be awful, because they are clearly the ones driving play on their lines. We have some depth scoring, but much of our offense revolves around those two guys to some extent.

But I think it might not necessarily be catastrophic if Hughes or Hischier were out for a short time, because we have Mercer, who can competently slot into a top 6 center role temporarily. It wouldn't be ideal, but it would be enough to get by until the injured guy can return. If we didn't have Mercer I would be much more worried about an injury to the centers.

The team has built such a big lead in the standings that a couple losses aren't the end of the world. But this is an interesting point in this season. The truth is they have been pretty meh for a couple weeks now. But they have been pushing at the right times, getting big saves at the right times, getting big goals at the right times. That has dried up over the last 3 games. It will be interesting to see how they react. They seem to be starting on the path of pushing for the perfect play instead of just getting pucks on net, and losing their cool a bit taking unnecessary risks. This is where the coach needs to do some coaching. And playing 3 lines instead of 4 isn't coaching....

Need a finisher.

Will help Jack. Will help the PP.

I know everyone hates Kane and Tarasenko and we need all the prospects and draft picks until the end of time.

Despite the horror of giving up a late goal in the 2nd period, they managed 1 flukey goal past Wedgewood.

Love the utter disrespect of Bratt here by Dom.

Cool.
