What I’d like to see next game.

Tatar Hischier Mercer/Bratt
Sharangovich Hughes Bratt/Mercer
Boqvist Haula Zetterlund
Wood McLeod Thompson

Haula and Zetterlund haven’t done enough in the top 6. Get them out and get Mercer and Sharangovich in there.

Siegenthaler Hamilton
Okhotiuk Severson
Bahl Smith

Vanacek
Schmid (sadly not gonna happen)

Thompson didn’t look nearly good enough last game. Didn’t look fast or strong enough unfortunately. Give him another game or 2 and if he doesn’t show well give Clarke a shot if Palat and/or Bastian aren’t back yet.

Put Okhotiuk with Severson because he’s looked good and been better than Bahl.

When Nemec is done at the world juniors call him up and try this

Siegenthaler Hamilton
Okhotiuk (or Bahl) Severson
Smith Nemec
Tatar shara on top two lines. :shivers: this team needs help up front

"playing pretty good" (3 points in the past eight games)

Lol my man really reaching. What’s he got 5 goals in 17 games?

It’s still a young team and a work in progress. They renovated the defense and it took two seasons. They started renovating the forwards this season with Palat but they have more to do there. They are on the right track even if the growing pains really hurt.

It is a young team saddling them with tatar and shara ain’t going to help them

Shara is up and down but is a cost effective depth scorer. He played well agsinst Boston. Tatar is giving his all but is just too small to be a matchup guy and his age is eroding his hands a bit. I’m hopeful Mercer can become a legit top six wing and that the team will find one more somehow.

Playoff line cushion down to 2 points. Wiggle room is all gone.

Good news is we have games in hand, but that doesn't mean shit if we can't start winning games again

Need two points tomorrow to get things back to 4 points at least.

There’s more than half a season remaining. They need to start rolling off some wins, but it’s too early to talk about wiggle room, must win games, etc. Any of those teams behind us is equally capable of going on a big fat L streak.

The drama here is really hilarious to me, if I'm honest.

We came into this season expecting to be a bubble team with some warts but more competitive as younger players develop.

We, evidently, are a bubble team with some warts but more competitive as younger players develop.

We've played 35 of 82 games. Not even half of the season yet. We're still on pace for over 94 points this year (108 points if my math is right, but I am bad at math).

Literally every team has ups and downs. We're in our downs portion right now.

Enjoy the ride. This season is already infinitely better than the past few.

Do we really need a daily (sometimes more than daily) update on the playoff positioning? Yes we know a bunch of teams in the metro have been winning while ours has been losing and it’s tighter now. And I know how to do math. It’s not necessary to remind everyone that such and such team is now this much closer every friggin day.

I honestly wonder if some people just aren't used to still being in at this time of year. In many recent years by this time of the season the playoffs have either been nowhere in sight or distant on the horizon, and the team hadn't shown anything even remotely close to the level of play they did for over a quarter of this season. I get we've had good starts before and then faded, but past results don't always dictate future results, and our good starts have never been 21 wins in 24 games and dominating teams good. I don't know, maybe that actually supports the idea that it was more of a fluke than we want to admit, but it's not like they've been playing like shit during this entire losing streak either. Sure, there have been stretches during games where they haven't been particularly sharp, but I'd be a lot more worried about a total collapse if they were getting outplayed on a regular basis.

Which isn't to say I'm not concerned. Losing 8 out of 9, even if you are outplaying/outchancing your opponents, is obviously not good and I think any team should look at that and try to figure out if there are things they can change or tweak to improve areas that aren't working.

Yup. Obviously the streak right now isn’t fun, but overall, this season is clearly progress. Just gotta keep pushing.

Ultimately you have to ask yourself if they’re doing the right things on the ice. You can’t completely side step the lack of wins but I just don’t think they’re playing that badly.

If anything, just more pucks to the dirty areas, less selectivity with shots and sticking with simple plays to defuse tension in your own zone. None of those things are even close to as bad as they used to be.
