It’s everyone that is struggling . Nico , Bratt were playing way better at the start of the year . No one is really scoring like they can.
Hopefully Palat helps the lines out by players slotting into spots where they are best suited.
Adding one more top 6 winger would be ideal
A legit finisher . Not a borderline 2nd line player , but a true first line player .

It's more then a lack of finishers. They aren't going through the neutral zone as effectively as they were. They aren't getting to the interior as much either.

Too many of the chances they get are low percentage

What I’d like to see next game.

Tatar Hischier Mercer/Bratt
Sharangovich Hughes Bratt/Mercer
Boqvist Haula Zetterlund
Wood McLeod Thompson

Haula and Zetterlund haven’t done enough in the top 6. Get them out and get Mercer and Sharangovich in there.

Siegenthaler Hamilton
Okhotiuk Severson
Bahl Smith

Vanacek
Schmid (sadly not gonna happen)

Thompson didn’t look nearly good enough last game. Didn’t look fast or strong enough unfortunately. Give him another game or 2 and if he doesn’t show well give Clarke a shot if Palat and/or Bastian aren’t back yet.

Put Okhotiuk with Severson because he’s looked good and been better than Bahl.

When Nemec is done at the world juniors call him up and try this

Siegenthaler Hamilton
Okhotiuk (or Bahl) Severson
Smith Nemec

They played fine last night. Don't see a huge need to change the lines. I Liked the Mercer/Rango line last night.
Agree that the line was good Boqvist included but that line is only gonna give us so much actual production, may not play as well next game and we really need to rejuvenate our top 6. Get Haula and Zetterlund out of the top 6 and get Mercer and Sharangovich in there. Need to get the Hischier and Hughes lines hot again.

Regarding Schmid: He was BLOWN UP last night in his game.

That tells me that they won't be as quick to bring him back if he's struggling in the AHL.

That doesn't mean he'll definitely struggle in the NHL, as Blackwood struggled in the AHL in the very same season that he excelled at the NHL level.

I think we can all agree at least somewhat that he was playing over his head a bit during his call up (hardly anyone maintains .930% over the long term and when they do they win the Vezina) so he was probably due to be cratered a bit, whether it was if he had stayed up here or gone down.

Erik Haula with points in one of his last 10 games. 2 goals total playing almost the entire season with Jack. Just inexcusable to keep him there for so long.
I'm over him.

And yes, he's not a bad player, but he's been fantastically awful at scoring goals and I think this is something that will continue (likely not to this extent) in future seasons in the NHL.

This is how it all starts, with a guy that's in his 30's scoring two goals in over 30 games and riding a wickled low shooting percentage. Usually it heats up a bit at some point, but almost never to prior levels of his career.

I'd still consider re-signing him for a bit less than he's making this year, on a one year deal and if he's replacing McLeod. McLeod is an RFA that's almost definitely getting a raise and I'd rather have Haula for $1.8-$2 million a year for one year than McLeod at $2 million a year for the next 2-3 years.

Regardless, I'd have to think the Haula with Hughes experiment will not go on beyond this year if we do bring him back. Hopefully his power play time is also diminished down to nothing by then, should he come back.

We’re never gonna score!
This needs to be the next GDT.

He shouldn't be playing with Jack. Palat needs to hurry so he can go back to 3C
When Palat comes back id like to see something like this for a tryout

Bratt-Hischier-Sharangovich
Palat-Hughes-Holtz
Tatar-Haula-Mercer
Wood-McLeod-Zetterlund

Boqvist is the only one missing but he has 4 points in 30 games so.. wouldnt be missed by me much. Would love to get Bastian back as Zetterlund hasnt produced much recently either. Or maybe take Holtz out but at least he has that shot.

Really load up the RW shooters and see if they can pot em in

Well thats not what you want to hear. A winning season could make talks easier?

Shouldnt the talks be ending before the season?

Idk if my heart can take another near-arbitration filing with Bratt, and this time being the last and most chaotic
I suspect his quotes are more clear in the article, but I’m not subscribed. Could someone enlighten us lol?

Maybe it was the author's suggestion

Either way for me to be comfortable Id want the talks to be ending by April with him signing. Otherwise if I dont hear much Im left to assume they are possibly considering a trade. A playoff run shouldnt affect a contract for an RFA idt

Expecting this to go smoothly is, to but it simply, very naive.

That is NOVO saying this. :squint:

Nowhere in the article (that I'm thankfully subscribed to) does it say that BRATT is suggesting a winning season will be the impetus to re-sign.

In fact, here is a couple of note-worthy excerpts from that article :

“Oh, of course I am,” Bratt said, when asked to reaffirm his commitment to the Devils on Thursday. “We have something really good going on here. I like the group, I like the core we have here.”

Then he raised tone.

“I especially liked how we were playing during the streak that we had. And there’s been a lot of games, even during the losing streak, when we’ve been playing some really, really good hockey. I think I can help this organization really, really achieve some big goals. This is a place I’ve been playing for a really long time and I’ve really enjoyed playing here.

“So, obviously yes.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Devils have lost eight of their previous nine games and can’t seem to bury easy chances in front of the net during that time. Bratt had a hot season start, but has three points (two goals, one assist) in New Jersey’s previous eight games and the second most individual scoring chances (33). Bratt said he’s spending “hours” of extra time on the ice with Jack Hughes to fix things.

“Obviously the goals and the points and all of that, I haven’t really hit my bounces with,” Bratt said. “If you look at my overall play I think I’ve been playing pretty good and I’ve had a lot of chances. I think I’ve been up around three, four, five, six shots a game for the last couple games, but I haven’t really been able to get the puck in too often. That’s kind of how the whole team has been playing lately.

“Those pucks that went in early and those second opportunities and those important goals haven’t been coming to us as a team and I’m mirroring myself a little bit too. I think me and Jack are starting to find a little bit more chemistry and just kind of waiting to explode.”
