I don't understand how people are so high on one player (Blackwood) after having two bad seasons, but are so down on Ty Smith with just one bad season.

Smith’s probably tied to Butcher a bit with how a good/young Devils LHD was good his first year and then going through a similar slump. Probably just fan PTSD.

Ty’s skating stride seemed alright last year but yeah still below average. Butcher skated like he had two left feet, he would’ve been incredible if his skating was average.

In part it’s easy to say it’s one bad season for Blackwood with all the time he missed and in part because he hasn’t been around to suck lately. Plus like someone else said we have Butcher PTSD with Smith

Definitely can see that. They each also have some limitations. Smith is better, but I do see how this connection is made for sure.

Blackwood is dealing with an injury that had him playing hurt (without practicing as part of the “pain management” plan) and put him on the IR for a large part of the season.

And no one is “high” on him? They just don’t want to dump him with no replacements in sight since he’s signed and theoretically can do better healthy.

You have Blackwood on the brain, the guy hasn’t played since mid-January and had 22 starts.
