I see people saying ''Blackwood is a good goalie'' when he hasn't been for two years, but the same people wanna throw out Smith because he's been bad for one year.

See now that's been the real issue with Tatar this year. It isn't his "grit" or how hard he plays. It's that his skill has dried up a ton.

Lovejoy was one of the best PK guys in the league when he had an excellent 2017-18 season. Not sure what that comparison means.
I think you are mixing apples and oranges. You are talking about play when I think many of the folks are actually talking about perceived talent.

For a game with lots of back and forth without stoppage it’s seemingly been a grind in this third period.

There are posters (I really do have one particular poster off the top of my head in my mind) saying Blackwood is a good goalie, despite the fact that he hasn't been in two years and is a question mark at best right now, not ''Very good''.
But there's never a shortage of posters that are ready to give up on Ty Smith, who hasn't even been as bad as long Blackwood has.
What I'm saying is that people give more rope to Blackwood than Ty Smith. This is precisely my point.

Siegenthaler being just Ben Lovejoy isn't a bad ceiling at all. That was not a negative at all.
But I think he's shown to be better than Lovejoy this year. At least by the time we had Lovejoy.
Lovejoy REALLY struggled when he was loaded up with minutes with Andy Greene in his first year here. The year after Larsson was gone. Siegenthaler has managed to stay afloat pretty well with 20+ minutes a night here.
When we first got Siegenthaler, my expectation was somewhere between Mirco Mueller and Ben Lovejoy. With Ben Lovejoy being the high end. I now see him as a higher ceiling than Lovejoy.

Smith has a ton of talent IMO.
That's one thing you can't take away from him.
He's had a poor season (he has been better since the extended healthy scratch though) and his skating sucks and probably won't get much better, but he's certainly got a lot of talent.

I don’t care about one poster and you refuse to recognize the “Blackwood because we have no other choice and he hasn’t been healthy” aspect of this.
And I don’t want to debate this with you because we all know everyone’s take and who the f*** knows what is going to happen in net next year.
People shit on defensemen a lot, unless they score (and he’s scoring now) or things are going fantastic for them defensively in an obvious way. That’s how fans and defensemen work.
And Smith has been our worst skater a lot of the time, so there’s that.

He lacks a certain amount of straight away speed skating talent and he lacks size and strength talent. For some folks those are fatal flaws in a defender. Blackwood has all the physical tools and has enough flashes that you can squint and see a dominant goalie if you choose to blame the last two seasons on covid concussion and injury.
