Lines are at 5v5. Zacha ranks 10th out of 15 forwards who have played 500 minutes in 5v5 P/60. This is without even getting into the other stuff. Such a reliable top 6 forward...
Where does Jack rank P/60?

better minds than mine will consider this, but since armchair general managing is what this thread is all about . . .

the last thing we need is another little fast scat back of a winger who hangs on the perimeter, looks for open spaces and scores off the rush. And two or three years after we already have Johnson clogging up the arteries? And forgive me if I'm wrong but I doubt Tatar kills penalties either. Big mistake.

I'd like to see us find a 200 to 220 pound guy who fights to the front of the net and tips pucks and plays tough and forechecks and goes into the corners with a vengeance. Anybody with good hands. Hey didn't someone just sign Corey Perry again, who went to the finals with Montreal last year. Give me a guy like that, any guy, I'd have been for James Neal even if I didn't think he was finished

I will be so bummed to see us sign Tatar, who is probably also dressing room poison judging on his recent peripatetic NHL existence. He's exactly what we don't need more of. This will be exactly the kind of PR move to add a scorer that we shouldn't be making.

He's not a locker room cancer! He was specifically praised by everyone (including Bergevin who loves to run down players right before he trades them) for how he handles himself and his professionalism. He just doesn't raise his game in the playoffs.

Hey where is THAT guy? I am sure 31 other teams would like that also.

You can only work with what you are given.

Let me know where those types of players are, for free, and then get back to me.

Hell, Brandon Saad is kind of like what you described and the Devils apparently offered him a contract comparable to the one he signed. He chose another team....it happens.

Corey Perry literally cannot skate, He would stink in this system and he isn't a top 6 player anymore anyway. James Neal? Not even worthy of a response.

lol It's so hard to take some of you seriously. Imagine thinking Neal or Perry are better fits. Absolute insanity

Sheesh, yes. Tatar's going to be great. He came to us as a throw-in with Suzuki for Pacioretty (take $ of their books) because he didn't raise his game for the playoffs for Vegas. We thought he'd be only OK, and instead he led the team in regular season scoring, played almost every game and was on a line that ranked in the top 5 for driving play in the NHL. People are mad because he was essentially pointless in the 5 games he played in the playoffs, when we needed him, but we wouldn't have been in the playoffs without him. Also, he showed up everyday cheering on his teammates, being nothing but positive. And he was responsible defensively. I am worried about us replacing him with Hoffman who is reputedly not responsible defensively and who doesn't have a stellar reputation as a team guy (from Ottawa stuff).

Like your user name :) My 13 was for Domi in his dominant year.

I know it is hard to accept for many...But over the last two years Zacha has produced more points than any player on the team....If he is not a reliable top 6 option, no one is.

Yeah? He is 5th with two guys who are no longer on the team? That is probably even a strong case for him being a legit top 6 player?

I am a recent NJ convert! I come in peace! Tatar is a very good supporting player and should look good next to Nico or Jack. He'll help their two-way games and in transition (not that Jack needs the help in that area).

Excellent signing.

I really like Kuokkanen but he went the Jacob Josefson School of NHL Shooting. He just doesn’t shoot the puck nearly enough and when he does, it doesn’t particularly go that great. JaJo (who I loved by the way) weirdly flubbed shots while Kuokkanen often shoots wide. Cartoonishly, Mr Magoo wide.

And don’t even start with Zajac with Rango and Kuokkanen, if you can’t tell that their offensive production was straight from Flukyville, USA, I don’t know what to tell you.

A playmaking winger is a hard-sell on the top six, unless they driving play like a MFer, you typically need goals from them.

Putting it in ratios to make it a level field for analysis. Doing totals when players don't have equal number of games is distorting the optics.

If you want to make the case for the top 6 roles, do just last year and ratios since there's new players that don't get a fair shake using a 2 year window.

Lmao I know. I stuck with the avi, mostly because Hunter and I have the same birth date. Weird attachment to it.

I am nominally a Canucks "fan", but the franchise is just too depressing. I usually pick a couple "less popular" teams to follow for a few seasons for fun. Used to be Carolina and Dallas for me, but due to recent events, I am rescinding my Carolina fandom.

NJ has a young, exciting team and seems to be on the right side of the analytics debates. Jack is going to absolutely blow up next year. Plus you guys have Dougie now. Go Devils!

I'm not so I agree with that...I mean I don't want to put a guy that can't stay healthy on equal footing with a guy who can...It is great that you put up .59 ppg in 79 games...But 124 games were played during that period...Someone being out for 50 games of 124 hurts the team as much as .59ppg helped the team.
