My apology if I gave the impression that I thought you suggested he didn’t care or wasn’t trying. That wasn’t my intent. I just tried to explain why I’m less critical than others might be. If Nico has two more goals nobody is too upset at him. Same with Mercer. He struggled but I can see the effort so I’ll give him a pass. I’m waffling on Bratt. Jack wasn’t great but obviously hurt. Same for Meier.
We are definitely all frustrated....All good no worries appreciate it....Hopefully they learn from this and grow....

Tatar, WOOF
That was the first thing I noticed. So he really was as bad as his stat line.

I still maintain we probably weren’t re-signing him and not I’m positive we’re not. I honestly think there’s a better chance Wood comes back (I don’t really think he is either) or even Kenny Sutton (I said that in my best Stan Fischler voice) than Tatar.

The guy had a pretty good season and I didn’t think he’d ever score 20 goals again, but he did hit goals 19 and 20 in game 81 and he played all 82 games.

He’s turning 33 years old in December. There’s a chance he’s this good again next year, but there’s also just as good of a chance that he’s the 30 point in 76 game player that he was in 2021-2022. I think he was always a stop gap guy to help us maybe better absorb the then-recent loss of Palmieri.

If we re-sign him, especially if it’s to another two year deal and for what he’s making right now and things go like 2021-2022 again, this place will really be turning on him and asking why we even bothered bringing him back. I don’t think too many people want him back to begin with after these playoffs.

That said, I’m not convinced Holtz is good enough to replace him next year either.

Grits if he hits his potential would actually work great with Bratt. I like Tatar but we beed an actual scorer who isn’t afraid of taking shit to the net. Grits Nico Bratt could be cool.

BUT, ideally we need to find another power forward asap to take Tatars spot next season.

Yeah replacing Tatar with a shoot first interior type of player makes too much sense.

I really like the guy, but he isn't the type of complementary player that will get us into the ECF and beyond

There is a non-zero chance Holtz is packaged off in some kind of hockey trade.

I expect Fitz to be all in on trying to find playoff type guys to round this roster out

Didn't say that lol
no you just said he should be traded for futures in hopes it could be parlayed for something better which is probably even worse.

Devils fans might need to realize he was a big part of a team that just had 112 points in the regular season and the front office shouldn't be too keen on disbanding the team on its first run to the playoffs. I wonder what people would say about Tkachuk's playoff performances with Calgary (probably wouldn't be as harsh because he's not small and European).

Not even acknowledging that a playmaker like Bratt also is affected by other people not scoring on his passes (ie: when Bratt set up Palat for the Devils greatest chance in the third).

As much as I shit on Bratt this playoffs he shouldn't be traded. That said I do no think you can sign him for over $8m per season. Even that might be pushing it. He is part of the core and he deserves a chance to prove himself. Hopefully this playoffs is a lesson to him for the future.

Tatar and Graves should both be gone. Blackwood obviously gone.

I do think Wood should be resigned for something like 3 x $2.5m. Same with Haula.

Boqvist and/or Sharangovich should be traded for a Coleman-esque north/south grinder type who has the ability to score 20 goals playing with Hughes or Hischier. Note sure who fits that bill and is still reasonably priced but that's the type of player we need. Basically a Tatar with jam and preferably <=28 years old. Maybe it is someone like Ross Colton.

I would like Severson back but its a two-way street. He'd have to take a deal with us and there will be plenty of up and coming teams will want defensive help (Sabres, Red Wings, Senators) who could throw some money at him.

I want to sign Tatar. But with some discount. 3/3.3*2 or 4/4.5*1. I know he isn't great in playoff but season is still exist and he would help to make this roster deeper, and we would not push Holtz so hard. There are no better options on the market, or we investing in Bunting.

I hate this bullshit. You’ll throw him in the garbage if he has a couple series with no puck luck too. But the chances he’s even a player of note aren’t even that high.

I’m actually embarrassed by the treatment Bratt is getting on twitter by Devils “fans”.
It’s a raw emotional moment and my guess is most social media users are on the younger side. Give it a couple of weeks and they will cool down. The issue is really just his contract. I struggle to see him as a $9 mil per player. If he wants a bit more than $8 per that is probably market value but if he holds NJ up for an overpayment that’s probably a ticket out of town. Fingers crossed.

You lost me at Wood.

Wood is not worth 3 years term, nor $2.5 million. His best days are done.

I would be shocked if he got a 3 year deal from anybody, unless it was for pretty cheap in dollars.

I thought we had moved on from the re-sign Wood for 3-4 years stuff after about November or December.

This is the way, but Wood at one year please

It's hard to give him a value.

While his stats are mediocre, the BMW line was the best 4th line in hockey by a margin in GF/GA and he seems to be a team first player.

Tatar at 1 year $2mil max. Then bench him in the playoffs.

Don't think holtz is going to be the one doing that, tbh, though I'd love it if he is. If we don't re-sign tatar, I'd imagine we keep Rango. My hope is that Foote slides into the fourth line for wood
