Mikey deserved to come back even before his great playoffs.

He gives you pretty much exactly what you want out of a 4C. He plays hard and physical, is a faceoff winning ace, and is a very good PKer.

There never was any reason to move on from him except for the hockey Canada stuff
I don’t think we were ever gonna just let him go. He’s an RFA and it’s not often teams just let RFA’s walk, which is why Wood came back for one more year as an RFA.

The only time teams let RFA’s go is if they’re either not regulars or their qualifying offer is more than they’re worth.

I’m not convinced McLeod will be here for the next 5 years, but I think he’ll be here the next 2 years and potentially more.

I still want a couple of sociopaths sprinkled into the lineup. The Canes should be in that locker room covered in ice bags and ace bandages. I doubt they are all that banged up. That has to change for NJ in my view. A guy who will butt end an opponent in the ribs or Hedman a guy would help this team.

Said it during the season, 5 years at $2mil per. Will prove to be an absolute bargain.

I really hope this run convinced Timo and Bratt that something special is happening here and they compromise a little on dollar amount for the sake of the team.
I honestly think timo is a lock to stay at a discount. He generally seems to enjoy it here and it doesn’t hurt that half his countrymen are on the team

Allegedly Meier wanted $9 mil per? We will see. Hopefully he sees the future and realizes his best shot at winning is with NJ.
"A number starting with 9"

I really didn't like the sounds of that... maybe it's just posturing? Or simply a starting point? I don't know but my gut reaction is too much.

Somehow I’ll guess Hischier was dealing with something. He blocks shots with full effort in regular season games. Do you honestly think he’d dog it now? He struggled but no way he’s shying away without a reason.
He got cranked more than a few times.

Now they know what playoff hockey is about and we will be so much more prepared next year

I certainly hope Nico was injured... I'm seething right now and doing my best not to point fingers

But the how hell is our captain the only forward without a shot on goal tonight over 4 periods while facing elimination?

A shot...a simple shot. Only forward without one... I'll stop now.

Can we please be the first team to do what NBA teams do and rest players during the season?

Especially now that Boston has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the regular season is completely meaningless.

Just filling out lines quickly what are we looking at right now. This is assuming the basic signings of Meier and Bratt and I think Haula will get resigned no doubt as well:

XXX - Hischier - Bratt
Mercer - Hughes - Meier
Palat - Haula - Boqvist
Lazar - McLeod - Bastian
Holtz, Thompson, XXX

Hughes - Marino
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Bahl - XXX
Smith, Nemec

Schmid
Vanacek

Definitely have some holes to fill this offseason, curious to see how it plays out.

Faceoffs mostly don’t matter, sorry. It’s fine to have a specialist for the ones that do, but don’t go out of your way to pay for that guy. There’s fewer than 5 really important faceoffs a game and an elite guy is only 20% better than the worst regular center in the league.

I do appreciate and thank Graves for being a good stop gap for us.
He played hard, blocked shots, didn't shy away from physicality. I hope he gets paid... somewhere else. Seems like a guy who's bound to get a contract that's 1 mill too much and 1 year too long. He's just kinda of decent at everything making people think he's a #4 dman for stretches but the lack of any above average tools makes him look out of place in the top 4 most of the time, he doesn't really have a realistic ideal partner.

It mattered this series. Canes had a ton of possession time off of faceoffs.

I agree. Dont go and pay for faceoff prowess, but, it does matter

Chicken...well tasted like chicken? Could've been cat I suppose?
You didn't know it but you're the one who made me order beef and broccoli with white rice and and egg roll. Extra duck and hot sauce obviously.

It kind of tasted like beef, and I'm guessing it was, but thoughts did cross my mind.

Canes had possession time off faceoffs because we were bad at regaining possession in all situations this series.

One of those skills is important every second of every shift and one of them isn’t

I usually agree with this over a course of a season.

But it was staring at everyone in the face this series. Devils got creamed on the dot and it started a ton of possesion time for the Canes.
