That was the first thing I noticed. So he really was as bad as his stat line.
I still maintain we probably weren’t re-signing him and not I’m positive we’re not. I honestly think there’s a better chance Wood comes back (I don’t really think he is either) or even Kenny Sutton (I said that in my best Stan Fischler voice) than Tatar.
The guy had a pretty good season and I didn’t think he’d ever score 20 goals again, but he did hit goals 19 and 20 in game 81 and he played all 82 games.
He’s turning 33 years old in December. There’s a chance he’s this good again next year, but there’s also just as good of a chance that he’s the 30 point in 76 game player that he was in 2021-2022. I think he was always a stop gap guy to help us maybe better absorb the then-recent loss of Palmieri.
If we re-sign him, especially if it’s to another two year deal and for what he’s making right now and things go like 2021-2022 again, this place will really be turning on him and asking why we even bothered bringing him back. I don’t think too many people want him back to begin with after these playoffs.
That said, I’m not convinced Holtz is good enough to replace him next year either.
