I don’t think it explains away the problem either.

But we’ve collectively come up a decent sized list of problems.

And so that brings me full circle back to a major shakeup probably isn’t on the immediate horizon at this point in time.

We drop our next several? Yeah, perhaps. But I think it’s going to be at least until Panarin, Miller and Chytil get back into action.
These problems have been going on with those guys in the lineup though

I'm not looking for wins.

I thought we would be fun bad and score some goals.

Instead we got a bad soccer team where literally everyone but Kakko and Fox was a better player last year.

Exactly this.

The focus seems wrong. They are so obsessed with winning at all costs and making the playoffs like it is some holy grail of irreplaceable experience that they’ve put such tight strings on these guys that they can’t open up, play and develop. Everything is a no-mistake grind fest.

The natural offensive talent needs to be fostered and developed. Not because it’s “fun to watch,” but rather because we saw what a shot blocking, safe, turtling team does the past two decades: not win a Cup.

You need offensive star power. Develop it. Period. Above all else. Drop the “defensive responsibility,” nonsense until these kids have developed their offensive arsenal.

I think I’d be fine with losing a different way. The fact that they are losing all of these games the same way is what’s concerning. That coupled with the fact that our insanely skilled forwards can’t score for some reason - something ain’t right when it’s all of them at once.

Also, what does this season do to the contention timeline? I think most reasonable people viewed this as the final transition year before maybe contending next year. Since this is looking like another completely lost season, are we pushing the contention ETA back a whole year? Do we need to wait until whoever we pick 5OA this year gets good before the team can contend?

This is what concerns me now, as well. Because Zibanejad, is he a 1C on a championship team? Certainly not this version, no way. Kreider even a top-6 forward? Buchnevich stays? So many questions and I'm supposed to expect this GM to get it right?

Every team deals with injuries, we need to have no injuries for Gorton to be worried?

Also I straight-up don't care.

Unless you're Bergeron, most stars suck defensively.

Tavares, Ovechkin, Kane, McDavid, Draisaitl, Eichel, and Malkin all blow chunks defensively. Even Crosby is a mixed bag.

This team can't pat its head and rub its belly at the same time.

We are either clueless in our own end but scoring 4+ or we our stout defensively and lucky if we score 1. Honestly, last year we looked like we were playing NHL. We would score 4 or 5 goals on 20 shots because of the tic-tac-goals while giving up 35+ shots. For some reason that motivated these slugs more than playing responsible hockey.

You are saying they look like that team. They don’t brother. They are miserable. They look like the bubble team. But the team that hit the pause scored goals made plays and sure lost games manitou because shesterkin was out. But the team that “returned to play is dead. Lifeless. Zero compete. That’s continued since the puck dropped in January.

So actually my point stands. Quinn never got this team back on track. They are the worst team since return to play. They have regressed badly. They have better dmen in the top 4 because of Miller but that’s the only positive.

And I disagree with you.

That team right before the break looked an awful like the bubble team (which was pointed out at the time on these boards).

In their 5 loses out of 7 games they scored a total of 12 goals so a shade over 2 goals per game.

Wanna know the big difference?

The wins in that final stretch also includes a 5 goal game from Mika Zibanejad and an ungodly 19 goals from him over the final 16 games of the season.

Take that out of the equation? You have results and production that looks awfully similar to what we saw against Carolina and thus far this season.

I mean think about that. Even with the cat scoting 11 goals in the final 8 games of the season, the Rangers still went 2-5.

That paints a pretty daunting picture of what would happen if he ever stopped.

No Panarin, Chytil, Miller and Trouba for part of this game is a tough way to play, they should still beat the devils.
The Devils have a winning record and smacked the Rangers twice now, so they are the better team. Also, Jack Hughs is the best young hockey player between the two teams, not even close!!

We take concert pianists and force them to play chopsticks because their piano sonata is a little sloppy.
When Kakko was trying to just freewheel his way through the NHL last year, he was literally the worst player in the league by many metrics. Not sure I’d say his sonata was a little sloppy.

... Kakko's development would seem a positive credit to Quinn...

Disagree, Kakko pretty much was the same player for all of last season, in fact some were saying he looked better (and scored more) at the beginning of the season than the end. Then went back to Finland and looked different in return to play. Goes back to Finland and again looks even better for this season. Kakko has gotten better DESPITE Quinn!

I'm just sad at how Davidson preached being a tougher team to play against and they just acted like a doormat in the third period in their own building to the New Jersey Devils who are supposed to be slightly worse than we are. Plus they hadn't played in 16 days. Such a joke.

So true

quinn was dead set on hoping he could get kakko to replace Fast for panarin and Strome. He didn’t want kakko to shine as the player he can be his first instinct was hope kakko can be that grinder for the other two guys. Ridiculous

Yeah he’s even publicly said he wants Kakko to fill the Fast role and to be that guy in on the forecheck digging pucks out for the other two guys. It’s fine to have that be part of Kakko’s game, but to be his role? He should be cycling down low and creating chances, not doing grunt work as his first priority.
