I just don't understand how we start every game so slowly. Not even mentioning the game tonight against a team that's been off for 2+ weeks. Like, something needs to change. Somewhere, somehow.

Think that's one of the reasons why this place is so negative from the start, because we always look like shit.

One change id make is to not start the zib line to start the game. Start Pdg Rooney and Kakko/Blackwell to get some energy going much like the Isles do with their 4th line a lot.

Yeah suddenly he's a "cancer" after he comes out in support of you-know-who. Very strange.
Would be strange if it happened. But his opinions were known years ago, he was waived weeks ago, and there was rumbling about his being a problem in the room starting when he was suspended for using a slur again a teammate way back in juniors.

Its not tnr effort, its like the defense is not in sync with the offense. Defense doesn't chip in enough. Its like they are reluctant to be aggressive on D.
Yes, yes it is. The inability to play 60 mins of intense, hard-nosed I give a damn hockey is certainly the problem. I watch Vegas, Colorado, Tampa, etc, the championship teams you aspire to have that element. This team can't play a full game.

Well, sure, everything is nuanced. But how do you nuance your way out of this? Usually the path would be to install a new coach who perhaps had a better grip on those nuances and might be able to do a better job of steering these kids thru the storm.

I think you can hire a new coach and probably find a different way to lose as a result of the remaining problems.

That’s most likely where we are right now.

I know people want that to be Tylenol that makes this go away. But it won’t be.

Probably one of the least likable teams in a long time and not really because of the personnel but moreso the complete lack of identity or anything resembling an NHL level system.

Its hard to “like” seeing all your best offensive players put up goose eggs every single night.

I think both things can be true. I didn't expect them to be good. I laughed at notions of making the playoffs before the season started.

That being said, you can expect the team to be bad and still see very alarming things that have you questioning the people in charge.

@Edge did an exercise before where he named all the crap on the roster and asked for your first reaction. That makes perfect sense to me.

Let's try another one: Zibanejad + Kreider + Lafreniere + Kakko: 56 GP, 8 G, 4 A, 12 P.

What's your first reaction? Are you thinking they all forgot where the net is or are you thinking what the hell is this team doing wrong?

My first reaction when some of the puck didn’t go in was to share a gif of a voodoo priestess and wonder which rival GM but the hex on us. Because the shit was damn near comical.

Okay, I won’t tell you they finished the season with 2 wins and 5 loses in their last 7 games and were out-scored 29 to 22.

Deal?

22 in 7 games is still scoring over 3 goals a game with Georgiev and lundqvist frick and frack not stopping pucks. Again nothing like this team or the team in the bubble.

Quinn has not recovered. He has not gotten this team back to playing competitive hockey since the pause. Which they were doing prior to. That’s on him

Zibanejad was so hot it was insane. I remember the last game before the pause they played Colorado and I watched it on Altitude and he came down the wing and scored and the announcers were going "Mika Zibanejad has 22 goals in his last 21 games." He and Panarin were so hot it was absurd. DeAngelo's insane year, Igor's run, Strome's production, etc. Fox. It's why they were in that position. Now, well, Z is a shell of himself and is skating in mud, Panarin is hurt, Kreider sucks and is a checking 3rd liner it looks like. Sad times.

We definitely got hurt the most by the COVID shutdown. Completely halted all the great momentum we had. Lafreniere is almost not even worth the brick wall this team has run into since.

And the Islanders were ice cold, actually a below average team other than their 15 or whatever game point streak in November and they had their 2nd and 3rd most important players out for the rest of the season.

That could have been us.

We've had lousy luck as well but not to the extent that it explains away the problem.

And let me tell u something else. This draft is trash. I couldn’t pick 10 guys that would be first rounders in a normal year.

we draft beniers 4th overall and maybe we fill the 3C hole long term. Nothing to get too excited about.

to draft Alexis Lafreniere and have him play like this? I mean I promise u if the penguins had gotten him he’d have 15 points right now

Yup and the idiot Quinn played him on his off wing from the very beginning.

My point still stands. This team limped into the break, and resembled that team during the playoffs.

I’m really not interesting in getting a HFBoards special where we debate whether losing 6-4 is preferable to losing 4-2. Because lord knows that is exactly where I see this heading and it’s like asking which testicle you’d rather have rupture.

There is no “better choice.”

Nah I'd still rather have Lafreniere, even after him going 1-0-1 in 14 than watch us be swallowed whole by the Lightning.

Im not advocating for keeping or dumping him, but i will say im not sold that this is the coach that wins us a cup because im of the opinion most if not all coaches have a shelf life and i do think he will be gone before we get there. I'm ok with how Quinn grooms the young players into 200 foot players but at some point you need to take a step ahead as a team, it doesn't appear to be happening and if thats the case then maybe since Gallant is out there you bring him in now while there is another good option available.

How am I hating him by pointing out that people were concerned about his character since that happened?

Then he checked a ref in AZ which people also pointed to as a concern about his character.

This isn’t hating him it’s just what happened.

I think I’d be fine with losing a different way. The fact that they are losing all of these games the same way is what’s concerning. That coupled with the fact that our insanely skilled forwards can’t score for some reason - something ain’t right when it’s all of them at once.

Also, what does this season do to the contention timeline? I think most reasonable people viewed this as the final transition year before maybe contending next year. Since this is looking like another completely lost season, are we pushing the contention ETA back a whole year? Do we need to wait until whoever we pick 5OA this year gets good before the team can contend?

If i were the rangers i would tell Deangelo to take an anger management class. Then to the public i would say Tda has said he wants to tackle his anger issues and continue with his hockey career.

than put him in the games. We need him. Fox is not an answer to run an offense. Fox is great, heady but not nearly as creative as tda

And it is not like "King of the Cancel Tony DeAngelo Club" Adam Herman can lead the charge of criticism against the Rangers for bringing him back, considering he hasn't even sent out a single tweet since JD ripped his BS report to shreds and and roasted him for being a "fan blog". There is nothing fan bloggers hate more than being called a fan blog. I hope whatever severe anxiety he said he had when he first sent out the report is nothing compared to how he feels right now.

I don’t think it explains away the problem either.

But we’ve collectively come up a decent sized list of problems.

And so that brings me full circle back to a major shakeup probably isn’t on the immediate horizon at this point in time.

We drop our next several? Yeah, perhaps. But I think it’s going to be at least until Panarin, Miller and Chytil get back into action.

I’ll repeat what I’ve said for years now - I don’t believe Quinn will lead us to the promised land, nor do I believe Quinn is the answer.

You are saying they look like that team. They don’t brother. They are miserable. They look like the bubble team. But the team that hit the pause scored goals made plays and sure lost games mainly because shesterkin was out. But the team that “returned to play” is dead. Lifeless. Zero compete. That’s continued since the puck dropped in January.

So actually my point stands. Quinn never got this team back on track. They are the worst team since return to play. They have regressed badly. They have better dmen in the top 4 because of Miller but that’s the only positive.
