GDT: Devils @ Rangers 7PM MSGSN MSG

The skaters owe Markstrom a serious apology. He played absolutely out of his mind. If memory serves me correctly, Jack had two egregious giveaways in regulation that led to odd man rushes….then the BS in overtime where he turned the puck over twice (what the hell was he doing on the first turnover?!)……you have to be better than that. One of the worst games I’ve seen from Hughes in a long time.

Why were we so damn good in OT under Ruff and stink under Keefe?! The speed and talent is still there to own OTs. It’s completely baffling to me.

You focus on single game results too much. Blackhawks allowed one goal against the Avalanche, Stars allowed 4 to the Rangers last night, Buffalo beat the Caps this week, etc. etc. etc. It happens all the time. They played a fine game against the Kraken and they played 2 solid periods tonight.
I wouldn't consider the last 7 games single game results.

I'd consider them 7 game results.

F*ck f*ck f*ckity f*ck.

I was going to bitch about the Instagram hockey going on but then he had a nice deflection goal and like five really nice backchecks and I was going to just let the careless bullshit go, but leaving the puck behind when it's just Timo back is pretty gross. Bad decisions all night but I still love Jack's game.

I thought we played well except for Jack's occasional bouts of madness.

Even when they caved us to start the third I thought we were playing our game.
They're getting 0 bounces also these days unfortunately.

I don't take too much away from this game tonight either way. They were gassed in the third period, which is to be expected coming back east from a long western swing. At least they finally got a loser point.

However, Jack was brutal. When he plays pond hockey like that, we aren't going to win much.
Normally when we play pond hockey is when it benefits us . With Jack Bratt Nico Meier Luke Hamilton , we should beat anyone playing pond hockey. It’s Jack being selfish and careless with the puck that burnt them.
I can see sometime in the future ( hopefully not and hopefully not already.) but teammates of Jacks might start getting frustrated with him hogging the puck and trying to do too much on his own. He is always calling for the puck and everyone defers to him too often . He tried to do too much in the 3rd / OT and it cost us. He needs to learn to make the smart play and not try to go 1 on 3 or 4 …… use your teammates for shit sake .

It's almost as if they started reading too much about how great they were playing during the 20 or less SOG stretch and forgot about what got them there.

Same thing has happened EVERY time we've gone on a winning streak the last few years. Like they just go all fancy River hockey and don't do the simple things they need to do. Third and fourth line played the best hockey for much of the game. I almost think that the top two lines press, and stop letting the game come to them, and also out speed our defensemen so it's always like two or three on Five when we enter the zone.

I am absolutely sick of this shit from Hughes. He’s not a f***ing rookie anymore. He’s lucky he didn’t get burned on the first breakaway.

It's that type of play that still happens way too much that keeps him a tier under the Kucherovs, MacK, and even Marchands of the league. Those are guys that probably mess up as carelessly over an entire season as Jack does in a single game sometimes. It really is maddening because you are right, he's not a rookie nor even close to it anymore.

No no f***ing kudos. They’ve been dogshit for two goddamn weeks. This is supposed to be a cup contender? Yeah f***ing right.

I don’t have the patience for this shit, not after the last decade+ already.

This is adversity. If they come out of it better it can only help come playoff time when the going gets tough which it always does. Frustrating as f*** right now no doubt

Keep in mind folks that this team hasn’t even had to endure any significant injuries up to this point in the season. And the goaltending has been improved from years past.

Heaven help us if even just one of our top 5 forwards goes down for than a couple of games.

Fair

But it's a worrying trend that we have yet to come out of.

And I don't consider the last two games coming out of them. We could have easily lost to Seattle.

As a matter of fact, losing to all 3 of Anaheim, San Jose and Seattle on the same trip would be hard for a really bad team like even the Hawks. So I'm not surprised that we got a win over one of those teams.

I don't think we're doomed for the year, but we need to get back to the way we've played against pretty good teams this year. Tampa is one we haven't beaten at home in years and years.

I do think this team has been playing down to these humpties lately. We weren't doing that in December against the cream of the crap teams.

We haven't had many bad games against good teams this year

The one that sticks out is Tampa back in October. Probably Colorado last month. Last game against Carolina wasn't the greatest.

I'm not gonna take much out of the abbreviated one in the 3rd. It may have been one of the very few good shifts we had the entire 3rd period, along with the abbreviated PK we had. We were AWFUL at 5 on 5, just as bad on the 4 on 4.

The first and third power plays were just bad. I mean, the first one was just not good. The third one was one of the worst of the year. The only good scoring chance was by them.
Their PP sucked Their PK sucked 5 on 5 sucked 4 on 4 sucked 3 on 3 sucked 🤷‍♂️

This is more like a continuation of their last seven-eight games of rubbish. I don't want to hear about the travel when they basically took half the trip off anyway. Maybe getting punked by the floundering Rangers will finally slap them back into reality.

Ugh

I didn't wanna be that guy tonight, as I was insufferable enough from puck drop.

But I was thinking about this tonight. Especially after Jack left the ice during an offensive zone shift.
