Disagree completely.

They played one of the best and hottest teams but they played exactly how they need to play. If they replicated tonight's effort they'd win against 9 out of ten teams.

(Although if FLA was all ten teams, we'd lose nine, like you say). Gotta give em credit
I was going to say "I agreee, as long as the opposing goalie let's in 3 sofites midway through" but even then we likely don't pull off the win without some good goaltending and some posts.

Insane take. If they played like they did tonight they would win about 2 out of 10 games.

Why do you say that? Outside of Luke Hughes, there wasn't much craziness. We kept them to the outside. We battled. We made short simple breakout passes and we got the puck deep. Everyone played well

It wasn't the Tampa game bc Florida took Bratt and alot of stuff away, but Tampa just isn't nearly as good.

Offensively, we weren't great, but winning a tight 3-1 game in the third is something we hadn't gone alot of, unless you count games that ended 6-5.

This was an important game bc we didn't play like a high flying offensive powerhouse.
We played like a team that could win a playoff game.

And that is rare AF this season

Go look at a heat map. We did not keep them to the outside lol. They hit 5 (!) posts and Daws made some unreal saves on the rest.

We didn’t play like a team that could win a playoff game. We played like a team the could get swept.

When this team is fully healthy, that’s a team that can win a lot of playoff games.

We got puck luck in a game we had every right to lose.

But this wasn't us blowing a tire, or having a ridiculous breakdown. You guys want river hockey every game or ugly frigging win at all cost playoff type wins against good teams?

Are you itching for a 7-5 loss to the Blackhawks?

This is true but I think we played a great game. Our breakouts were short passes, blocked allot of shots (Nico, Mercer with memorable ones) and we played like we need to play against a good team.

Daws came up with the ones the posts didn't get and that's all that matters
I think what you described is generally what a less talented team has to do. Play with heart and minimize the onslaught that is happening. But if the onslaught is happening in the first place, I don’t think the takeaway is this is how they need to play.

They’re playing within limitations right now. It’s fine and a good win. I think every younger non-30s guy is more committed to detail than they were at the start of the year.

They played blue collar lunch pail hockey. They got greasy goals and worked hard for each other. That wins when your high skill players aren't there to bail you out on one end and Daws bailed them out on the other end when Florida's high skill kicked into gear a few times.

I'll take it and not be looking back.

Bob gave up a softy on Haula too. Caught him napping.

Daws gave up 1 goal on 3.1 expected goals. He straight up stole 2 points for the Devils this season against the hottest team in the league.

Enjoy it, but let’s not blow this out of proportion like it’s one of the better games they’ve played.
Agree with you mostly. They played a fine first, but Florida really pushed the pace until the end.

With that said, we have a depleted lineup and the Panthers were absurdly hot. 47% xGF% all situations in that scenario isn't bad at all.

^this exactly

The news flash is that there are other talented teams in the league. You *should* learn to play desperate, committed hockey NOW, bc we'll need it later. Hell, we need it right now until done ig guns come back.

No one really is. They are doing what fans should do and that is be happy their team won.

If Florida was missing Barkov , Verheaghe , Bennet , Montour and Forsling that would be the equivalent of what the Devils are missing right now. Now Florida even without those guys in the lineup still have plenty of talent but they aren't winning 9 games straight without them....

They had a lot of breakdowns. They gave up a lot of high danger chances. But they finally got goaltending and they got a ton of help from the iron.

If they got this goaltending all season, they would be at the top of the league. They played way worse today than they normally do.

My
Daws with a cool 2.63 GSAx. Sweeeeeet.
Watch him lose to Boston then Ruff puts Vitek in against Montreal, who proceeds to lose us the game.

And Ruff’s rationale is here’s the best bad option we have lol.

Not a good defensive effort.

It’s not just being happy the team won. Everyone is happy they won. It’s a huge win.

But we have a lot of people claiming that they’re playing playoff hockey and playing better than they normally do. It’s not even close to accurate.

You take this win 10/10 times with a depleted roster. But when healthy, this team plays a million times better every night.
