I can’t believe how good Nemec already is. I thought the offense would be there but the guy is a rock defensively way sooner than we could’ve hoped.

Nemec seems to be more ahead of schedule defensively than Luke. Am i crazy?

No, they pretty much controlled play from the start. Don’t be blinded by results instead of process. I’ll take this every day of the week given the injuries, but it’s not the way you want to play to win games.

I mean they got absolutely smoked tonight, but they won the goaltending duel. This isn’t a replicable playing style without Daws being lights out.

We really dominated the first period... We fell more in 2nd but held on.

Definitely a goalie saved it a lot of key plays, was the big diff ultimately.

They play significantly better than this when the stars are there. What game did everyone watch?

The Devils did not dominate the first period. They played an even period and were lucky to be up 2-0. Then they got another lucky goal and went into a shell the rest of the game. Daws played great, but they will not win much playing this way.

Florida had the larger share of expected goals after the first. They pinged the post a bunch of times that period.

Absolutely not. You trade for a reliable goalie. Let Nico platoon with whoever you add. One game doesn’t change that.

But it maybe changes the level of goalie you need to add.

I was into Kahkonen, as opposed to a bigger name. If Daws is capable then I'm more even into that idea.

I said this last game, it's a bit easier to play this way when your entire lineup is back checking consistently. Jack having his rough stretch probably allowed guys to squeeze their sticks a bit more in the last month and half since he came back because they wanted to be the difference maker.

No. In an ideal world, Luke should have had 1-2 seasons in AHL first. But we needed him almost straight away.

Daws was absolutely great. Got some pipe help and we actually played about our best defensive game of the year too against a really good team.

Yeah, that game was trash. Be happy they got 2 points with a toilet paper esque lineup but there's no way we want the Devils playing like that consistently

Exactly what I was thinking during the game against Tampa too. I know they didn't control play, but they were gutsy defensively, hard on the puck, and didn't do stupid dipsey doodle BS through the DZ and NZ (other than Luke lol).

Again, one has to look at the coaching.
