One thing I notice is that NJ doesn’t cheat enough. They don’t clutch and grab sticks enough they don’t chop guys in the low back after thr whistle they don’t spray snow at the goakie after thr play they don’t just put their heads down and run over the goalie. Other teams do this stuff and get minimally penalized because of game management. NJ needs more of it.

Other teams get away with so much clutching through the neutral zone and in the corners and we just never do it.

and not to sound like a dinosaur, but we're 2nd to last in hits in the league

the only team below us is buffalo, and they're hot rn. if we're gonna get caved in the neutral zone, then we should be dumping/chasing a lot better, and hitting to gain possession. seems we only try to force o-zone entries, and that gets broken up a ton these days

Hits are a pretty unreliable stat in my opinion. They mostly reflect which team doesn't have possession of the puck, so bad teams often rack up a bunch of hits while they chase the puck carrier. Add in wild inconsistencies between rinks for what is considered a hit, and it's hard to draw anything from the stat.

I think the bigger players get away with it more because it's easier to hide. If a guy like Bratt tried it, it would be super obvious. Not enough mass to hide it.

We're so much easier to defend during these ruts because our attack defaults to everyone watching Jack force that extra deke to try to conjure something from nothing and opponents know it.
