I have never seen a team make a shot battle look so deceptive as the Devils have over the past 2 seasons. If I didn't know any better I would've thought the Devils had maybe 6 shots the whole game up to this point.

Early in the season the shots were dangerous. But the last few weeks, yeah, everything is muffins from the outside. Even that isn't bad if you are battling for rebounds and winning the puck for second and third opportunities. But that has completely and utterly dried up.

I'm not giving up on prospect of his age, but he has probably been scratched more games than he's dressed for and his average TOI is something like 9-10 minutes. He doesnt get good looks on 5on5 cause he cant really skate at this level, he doesnt get set up on PP either for whatever reason and then when he has a chance he has no confidence what so ever to do anything for the reasons mentioned above. He needs to go to the AHL.

Some players also just don't have the brain to play at this level. All tools, no toolbox. Holtz has never really thought the game at a high enough level and this weakness has been pretty much the cause of all his problems.

I think it's painfully obvious it was a playoffs or bust year for him to come back next year. That was obvious. And how many coaches stay around for a fourth year after missing the playoffs the first three years straight? Obviously Blashill did for a while and Dallas Eakins and DJ Smith currently are, but we're supposed to be better than those teams. At least Detroit and Anaheim. Ottawa got a lot of hype because of their offseason.

My call that he'll be fired midseason? I certainly think it's possible if we look like we're not gonna be able to tread water. I think we're still several weeks away from that.

And I do think we'll see personnel changes before that. Not trades, but likely Akira's recall, even if we have to have 3 goalies on the roster. Unless Akira gets blown to smithereens upon his return to the AHL. Then they might not wanna throw him into this.

Literally the entire team turned to pumpkins almost over night. Has nothing to do with the opponents, strength of schedule, etc. They just went back to last season mode. And just like last season it feels like the only reason to tune in is Hughes.
