Didn't play catchup on all the posts yet, so maybe it was said before.

I figured this was an off-season thing to happen. I wonder if Fitz finally pulled the trigger now - hoping to get the coach-dump-bump? And hence why we are still connected to Markstrom?

Then again we're going to Green so....idk

My only complaint is why didn't Rogalski go with him? He needed to be fired in December or January at the latest. It's a joke that he survived Ruff.

I still expect he'll be GANKED at season's end, but he's actively poisoning the goaltending position here.
I'm just hopeful that Lindy bringing up the fact that we have a "Goalie Coach" REMINDED Fitz that we do have someone employed in that position....

I'm a Canucks fan.

This guy cut corners all the goddamn time. He never played the prospects on the farm; the little AHL success he had is because Markstrom cleared waivers in 2014-15 and carried them to the finals. He doesn't have a system, loves grinders, and doesn't develop players. Canucks media hyped him up as the next prodigy coach because he coached Utica to a final. So national media picked up the storm and branded him as a "good coach." Once the Canadian media has a narrative, it sticks. It's bad.

Because nobody really watches Vancouver play because they were shit under Green, they didn't even realize how shit he is. But he never got called out for it because he had that previous reputation of being a good AHL coach (all because of Markstrom's 0.934).

I hope you guys find a better next coach. You guys don't deserve this.
Yeah we know, thanks. We just hope he will help to maximize the value of the pick. Demidov could be a good winger for Nico and he wanted to travel to NA earlier.

Or Catton. I didn’t decided yet.

We can draft Jiricek and start mtl/jackets type madness and call him “better Jiricek” on every corner.

I don't think he really had any choice with how lackluster this team has looked since the Stadium Series game. I also dont think he wants the sight of the home fans booing the shit out of Ruff and chanting Fire Lindy again, and you know it would be worse this time than before. Sometimes it gets so bad you just have to make a change, and we were at that point.

At this point my concern is with the GM who hired him in the first place, then allowed the head coach to stay on looong passed the time a change was needed and obvious, and now has this guy at the helm.

Our hope is that Green is truly just an interim and there’s a total house cleaning at seasons end. However, speaking for myself, I don’t have a ton of trust in Fitz when it comes to his coaching staff decisions.

Appreciate the insight. I think a lot of us are afraid of this. Some of our play has slipped this year 5v5 particularly offensively and I have wondered if that is partly due to Green’s influence on tweaking things in the system. Especially as injuries hit.

“Travis has key experience running benches at the junior, AHL and NHL levels and knows that there are no shortcuts to success. He is a high-demanding individual who is familiar with the group and excited about working to get us back on track.”
I'm sure I echo @Bleedred when I say I'm NOT excited by this type of talk from Fitz.

Just keep Green in that "Interim" thought-process, Tom, and go after Sullivan this offseason.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE.

Jammed with work today - saw the news now.

About 5 to 10 games too late, but it has to happen I guess. I was a fan of Lindy overall, but something was really wrong here somehow.

I do feel he got dealt a shitty hand this season with the injuries and goaltending piss poor situation.

Dougie (whole season practically)
Nico (concussion)
Jack (arm/shoulder whatever the hell)
Timo (whatever the hell mid lower upper body injury)
Sieges (broke foot)

Those guys out or playing at weak capacity for sizable portions of this season didn't help the team.

Forced to play two rookies on the backline above their weight, and then veterans like Marino, Sieges, Smith have very underperforming years.

Bahl staying flat.

D nightmare plus system was exposed and needed adjustment. Adjustments Just came 10-15 games too late

All this helped sink the team under Lindy. Plus the goalie problem which is mostly on Fitz for doing jack shit all season.

Could he have been better with the system, yes.
Could he have been much better with the goalie choices, absolutely.
could he have been much better with the PP selection, yes.
Could he have not run a ridiculous pairings, yes.

Did some of the players also play with some air of arrogance this season, yup!

I think ultimately the D and goalie situation sunk Ruff though, and his stubborn lack of changes until too late coupled with some subpar performances from some forwards not named.

The beginning of that quote is why I'm pretty comfortable saying he's only an interim.

The last 2 weeks probably did this.

I think it's overstated that a coach has lost the room or and people are really quick to say things like that, but it really looked like he had lost the team over these last two weeks. Probably starting with the Caps blowout loss. We were down by like 1 goal going into the 3rd? And the game ended like 6-1 or 6-2 with a late junk time goal from us.

The Rangers blowout, the Montreal game we deserves to probably lose. The Tampa game was disgusting. And then this road trip really finished him off. Especially yesterday's game, where the team showed no life at all.

Also don't underestimate the whole ''Allowing the first goal of the game 70%+ of the games'' factor. I'm sure that didn't help him.

I think they wanted to at least give him the end of the season and they probably would have let him resign or ''Retire'' rather than fired him like this.
You're right. I was thinking that 'team wasn't ready to play' was a phrase we heard a lot.

The system, the lack of accountability and no crackdowns on players playing badly...

It also seemed like conditioning is a factor in games especially with our vets looking so old and slow.

Just lots of reasons.

Really at the end of the day it’s not even about the wins/losses for me with Lindy. It’s about how this team plays the game, which is why I advocated to dump him even after a great season results wise last year.

Top to bottom not a single skater, whether it’s a rookie on the backend or a seasoned vet up front, has executed the little important details away from the puck consistently. And there is absolutely no doubt in my mind Lindy’s shit system that was too convoluted, combined with the lack of accountability for executing the little details, was a defining contributor to this.

Did Larry Brooks retire or something?

He was pumping out smear campaign pieces on Ruff back in December of 2021 and how it was time to fire him then lol. Everyone said he had it out for Ruff for posting all those things.

I haven't heard shit from him this season on Ruff.
This is the most recent article (02/24/24) he had on him :

I'm sure he's typing up his I-Told-You-So column as we speak.

I think Toffoli can score just isn’t good for overall system and roster. Goals? Yes, mistakes and awful plays under the pressure, especially in the end of the game? Yes.
Noesek is slow, McLeod is a big depth loss. With losing Last year Tatar, Wood(he wasn’t smart but he did well on the boards), McLeod, injured players don’t play 100%, rookie defensemen can’t be consistent, Bahl is overload, goalies svck, Holtz isn’t good 200 foot player even if he is better, at least now.
There were too many reasons to be worser team. It is important to stay healthier and make right decisions. Team don’t need in huge moves, just find good left defenseman, some good depth players to play fast and forechecking game. And working goalies. Sounds big, but it’s not really. Core is young and good. But Fitz needs to make it this summer, don’t need to waste the time of Dougie, Nico and ELC of young defensemen.
