We wouldn't have the money for that, though.

like I am sorry, if you are going to shit on a player who has been in the top ~10 in the entire league ins scoring the entire year but then continue to prop up turds like Dawson Mercer..................yeah.

Like no one's defending Timo, he needs to be a better finisher but other than that what more can you ask from him? But he's arguably the least of our worries then turds like Palat, Mercer, Haula walk away scot free.

I think tankathon has us as the 27th toughest remaining strength of schedule. We burnt up quite a few of our toughest opponents on that trip and with the first game back from it.

Now our toughest are @ Winnipeg, vs Edmonton next week and both games against the Wild.

We still have Philly, Hawks, Pens x2, Boston x2, Islanders and Red Wings.

Many folks been defending him all season. Hes been playing great, pucks just not going in. That has been said nonstop

Updated after today:

Devils have 7 games against current playoff teams, 3 games against bubble teams and 8 games against teams playing for nothing.

Columbus has 11 games against current playoff teams, 2 games against bubble teams, 7 games against teams playing for nothing.

Rangers have 13(!) games against current playoff teams, 1 games against bubble teams and 5 games against teams playing for nothing.

This discourse is nuts. I honestly think that it’s been so long since we’ve had a truly reliable core that people just don’t even remember what it looks like to see them actually step up when the team needs them most. Either that, or folks bought into them from the start and now just don’t want to admit they aren’t as much of the bees knees as they proclaimed the whole time. Probably a combo of the two.

Pointing out that their production is the only reason this team is not in the basement already shows how awful our bottom six is, but it does not mean that the core is good enough. It isn’t good enough. They have not proven themselves to be dependable when the chips are down and they are needed most, the most important one has durability question marks, and we have no sniper or natural goal scorers amongst them.

This should be the phase where these guys have become regulars in the playoffs and we figure out if we have what we need to make deep runs and wins a cup. Instead we are still trying to figure out how to even make the playoffs consistently.

This team hasn’t won more than two consecutive games in two f***ing years. Think about that. Words cannot adequately describe how pitiful of a state that is to be in with this core at this juncture.

Timo shooting below 10% when he's been a 12-13% shooter his entire career. If you think that continues, that's your fault.
Jesper Bratt is a PPG player and will probably break his point totals this year for his career or come very close to it.
Jack Hughes, the only issue is his health and not being available but he's also suffered injuries that are absurdly unlucky and would knock out any player in this league for time.
Nico Hischier, similar to Jack but I've gotten on Nico's game this year at points but for the majority he's been very good.

Now let's look at the more egregious bottom 6 turds

Dawson Mercer: expected to be close to his 22-23 goal production self or at the very worst, 25 goal scorer for this team. He won't come close the last 2 years in that production. Has looked like a complete shell of himself

Erik Haula: DOES NOT HAVE A POINT SINCE THANKSGIVING WHEN HE WAS A 35-40 POINT GUY THE LAST TWO YEARS

Ondrej Palat: has a combined total 78 points in 3 years making 6M. Stefan Noesen has 107 points if you want to reference how mediocre to garbage Palat has been.

The core up front is fine, the depth is f***ing dogshit and guys that we expect to be decent contributors are f***ing zeros to this team.

If I had to guess? I'm probably picking the Rangers, only on reputation because of Igor. I think there's a better chance of believing they will get in than Columbus.

Then again, both could get in and we're out or maybe it's us and Columbus in? I really don't care. I'm not gonna complain if the Rangers or anybody else gets in so long as we do. But I will continue to root against all of them as it's in our best interest.

It looks like Detroit might be done after that heater they went on. Montreal is currently on another one again.

It really is sad that even at full strength we couldn't win 4 games in a row this season, when teams the Islanders had a 7 game winning streak, Montreal had a couple of really long ones and are currently on another (I think they lost in OT last game though), Columbus has had some really long winning streaks and the Red Wings had a really monster one recently to take them out of the bottom of the East and put them in the playoff picture. I think even Pittsburgh had a pretty long streak early in the year and fought all the way back to get to NHL 500 around Christmas before imploding for good.

I updated the games left after you responded if you want to see the new numbers

My post above ignored guys like Lazar, Bastian and Tatar even though Tatar has been fine for what he was brought in for. He was cooked last year and expecting a lot from Tatar was an issue in itself which again falls into the lap of bozo Fitz. Oh yeah a guy like Cotter is f***ing mediocre too, he brings nothing at all unless he's on a shooting bender which last a month into this season. Useless f***ing acquisition

The closest I remember Haula coming to a point recently and I can't remember if it was the first Dallas game or against Vegas (I'm pretty sure it wasn't the game in Dallas) was when him and Cotter were maybe on a 2 on 1 or some kind of rush. I remember he had a nice pass to Cotter and Cotter sent a shot with not much on it onto either DeSmith or Hill (I can't remember which one) and they pretty easily stopped it.

I was fuming with Cotter over that one. I can't remember if it was a really weak backhander with nothing on it or just a very innocent wrister with nothing on it.

Nemec for Zetterlund this off season. Who says no?
I'd probably call Montreal around something for Nemec for Owen Beck +. They need an RHD both short term and long term and have the slovakia connection with Slaf and Mesar in the organization. They also just re-signed Evans at center and have Hage on the come up.

Sharks and Sabres also have a lot of near NHL ready center/forward prospects with a clear need at RHD. I think fans should realize by now that we're not getting an elite young forward back for Nemec but there's plenty of interesting near NHL ready prospects that could be had that would fit in very well short and long term.

Nemec for Zetterlund this off season. Who says no?
I would think we should probably be able to get something more than just Zetterlund back for Nemec, but I don't Ottawa would say no, unless they're really down on Nemec.

But I was pissed too when I saw the Sharks traded him to Ottawa. I didn't even find that out until like 11:30 at night when I listened to THG's recap video on my drive back home. I was actually zoned out for a second and heard ''They trade Zetterlund to (didn't even catch it) and they get back whatever and Zetterlund is a pretty good forward, he's got (whatever stat line) on the season''. I was like SONUVUHBITCH! and had to rewind the video to catch it again.

I still think the Cotter move was decent. He just should’ve been a 4th liner that brings speed, grit, and the occasional goal like Wood. At his salary, it’s hard to complain about the production even if it’s been very uneven.

It was a fine move considering they traded a guy who was on the outs and a goalie who probably had no future here with Daws emerging and one Mickey Mouse playoff series v NYR. That being said, Cotter should've been a fourth line main stay but due to this team's lack of depth up front he becomes Jack's wing one game and then goes elsewhere in the bottom 6 the next. It's evident that they're finding their next Zetterlund via trades because Tom, for sure as shit, can't draft one

I like Zetterland but he's fast becoming the new Boqvist or whatever we obsess about. He's probably a bottom six player at best. He just got dumped for a younger grittier but even less productive forward.

The Meier trade is only "bad" in the sense that we could have packaged up what we sent - the 1sts, Zetterlund, Okhotiouk, and Mukhamadullin - in better deals for more than one player, although we hoped Meier would be that 35 goal, 65 point player with a physical presence along the boards.

Meier hasn't lived up to our expectations - that's fair to say. But Zetterlund was dumped by San Joe, Okhotiouk is nowhere, and Mukh seems to be coming along but I don't think he would be top three in our D prospect pool here. Had Meier lived up to it, we'd have won the trade easily.

And that's what I guess everyone has a legitimate gripe with Fitzgerald about. His drafting sucks. He has a habit of pulling in low-chance prospects, especially in later rounds. We have a really bad prospect pool, and yet we can't fill out an NHL roster yet.

On the other hand, he's tried to make moves that largely haven't panned out.

I do think Glass and Sprong are exactly what we needed - solid bottom six players. We need more of those, and we absolutely have to jettison Haula and Palat. The offseason will once again be very important.

I really want this team to get something going again and get into the playoffs, if not for the experience alone and positive trajectory. I'm wanting Hischier to re-sign here.

I am pleased to see Stillman is gone.

I thought for sure at some point next year we'd be seeing him in NHL games and he'd be getting first round pick treatment call ups and getting into games before he became waiver eligible.

I'm glad we never had to suffer through him on the NHL team.

I'm glad to see we threw that god damned curse into that god damned pond.

If you trade Nemec anytime in the near future he won't return much of anything...

At this point he's a reclamation project for any potential suitor... you'll only get a meaningless piece in return or another problem child.
That's overdramatic. His value is dropping everyday we get further from the 2022 draft but that doesn't mean he won't return much of anything. Jiricek has been even more disappointing and he returned a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th round pick and a decent defensive prospect in Hunt.

Nemec clearly doesn't have as much value as he had even a couple months ago (when I said they should start looking at trading him) but he still has value as a young RHD with potential.

The Devils have Hamilton, Pesce and Kovacevic locked up with Casey still in the system, they have to trade Nemec this offseason for some forward help.
