I'd much rather have Timo at $8.8 million than Palat at 6. Timo is about 6 years younger than Palat.

Granted, I think it's fine to call out Timo for lack of finish. It is frustrating.

Palat this year has been like the opposite of Timo when it comes to goal scoring. Finishing at an unsustainably high shooting percentage. Highest shooting percentage year of his career. 16.3% shooting percentage, a full 4.3% higher than his career average of 12% and he's also on pace to tie his second highest goal scoring total in his career.

Now you KNOW he ain't doing that next year. It's probably a little extreme to say he's gonna be Haula bad next year (he is literally 5 days younger than Haula though) but he's definitely not gonna be this good next year.

And again, all that for a guy who almost definitely is not going to have a single 40 point season as a Devil. Not even ONE!

Timo is shooting 3-4% worse this year than years past. If you think that's gonna continue, be my guest. The Devils will be hard pressed to find a better player or group of players with Timo's cap hit v Palat's

I haven't gotten on him too bad yet, but I think it's also fair to call him out.

As a matter of fact, the only THREE players I really wouldn't call out too much, actually, I hate to do it, there's probably two. Bratt was gonna be one of them, but he's been on quite the Timo-like stretch himself as far as goal scoring goes for a while.

The only two players on this team I don't wanna see anybody say anything bad about are Jack and Nico. You can question Jack's physical health and ability to stay healthy, whatever. But those are the two guys that I wouldn't say shit about the years they're having.

Maybe Bratt. He's not scoring enough goals, but look, he's playing with f***in Palat. How much does that have to do with it? I think it probably has to do with at least some of it.

Lmao, this isn't the NBA. Just because you have elite star talent up top doesn't mean the rest of your roster can be useless turds. Palat is actively hurting this team more than Meier has.

When the star talent is not producing at a star level that is a BIG issue, that goes for Bratt too atm since he can’t rely on Jack to pump up his point total now, but at least he’s had his best years here

Fitz is so cooked. Dude trades a 2nd and a prospect for Dumoulin to balance the defense, and after one shitty Nemec game they stick the other shitty LD he traded for on the right side to immediately unbalance the pairs again. Dear lord.

If Nemec was hanging on by a thread like that, bring up Casey or trade for another shitty replacement D with a right shot. Man, Fitz has turned into a figure of scorn in record time.

It would be nice if the 6M guy was a 20-25 goal scorer yearly yet he's barely hit 30 goals in his 3 years as a Devil yet this fanbase has a constant hate boner towards the actual stars of this team

Jack has his owe flaws and I'm not even talking about staying healthy. He's not particularly good without the puck.

Earlier this year his play away from the puck seemed improved dramatically but it reverted rather quickly in the 2nd half of the year...

I'm sure there's some matrix or pokemon card that shows the opposite but just before he got injured was doing that same ol leave the zone early and cheat on the play.


Nico is a good strong soldier. Nothing more though. He's not a guy that moves the needle. He just a solid all around player. You need guys like him but you need two or three to make a difference.

Everyone complains about every player not getting enough shit, or too much. Fact of the matter is there isn’t even a handful of players on this roster who DON’T deserve shit on some level right now…Jack, Nico, Noesen, ???
 
This discourse is nuts. I honestly think that it’s been so long since we’ve had a truly reliable core that people just don’t even remember what it looks like to see them actually step up when the team needs them most. Either that, or folks bought into them from the start and now just don’t want to admit they aren’t as much of the bees knees as they proclaimed the whole time. Probably a combo of the two.

Pointing out that their production is the only reason this team is not in the basement already shows how awful our bottom six is, but it does not mean that the core is good enough. It isn’t good enough. They have not proven themselves to be dependable when the chips are down and they are needed most, the most important one has durability question marks, and we have no sniper or natural goal scorers amongst them.

This should be the phase where these guys have become regulars in the playoffs and we figure out if we have what we need to make deep runs and wins a cup. Instead we are still trying to figure out how to even make the playoffs consistently.

This team hasn’t won more than two consecutive games in two f***ing years. Think about that. Words cannot adequately describe how pitiful of a state that is to be in with this core at this juncture.

L-L pairings are at least much more normal.

I wouldn't describe Nemec as hanging on by a thread but he genuinely had the worst period of hockey I have seen from a defenseman that I can recall. A direct lazy giveaway leading to a goal, another one he was on the ice for, and then horrible net front coverage on goal #6.

Nemec is going to either force a Hamilton move or play his way off the team. My guess is he plays his way to a trade. I don’t have too much of an issue with keeping him around as the sixth or seventh defender to see what he’s capable of over a longer stretch. It’s time to step up or step off for him. He doesn’t need to be great just look like a consistent NHL bottom pair defender would probably be enough but I’m skeptical he can do that right now.
 
Fitz would probably buy back a lot of goodwill if he can make BOTH Palat and Haula disappear after this season.

We might have to wait another year to buyout Palat, but maybe somebody takes him in a cap dump and won't block it? Spending a 2nd round pick to get rid of him would be totally worth. Just saying.

A lot of people want Dougie gone, but our D is fairly one dimensional without him. But he also isn't as good anymore and this is now 3 of 4 seasons here that he's out with significant injury,
