I think Mercer is FINE. He does produce a bit. If we had two better centers in the bottom 6 and one added top 6 winger I think the complaints on everyone from Bratt to Timo to Mercer goes away

Relying on this seasons version of Haula and Lazar to center the bottom 6 while having the Palats of the world on the top 6 is hurting them all

They've tried playing Mercer up in the lineup with Hischier or Hughes. At what point is it on him for not being able to mesh with our star centers? And if we're paying $4M for a third line winger that produces mediocre results why not cash out on him from some team still believing in his long term potential for an actual forward upgrade?

Dawson Mercer has 33 Even Strength goals since March 5th 2023 playing mostly in that black hole of the bottom 6.

The narratives are mostly bullshit to protect the shitty core

Dawson has been given plenty of chances in the top 6 and has failed each opportunity. He's clearly a much worse player than Meier and I think Meier is overpaid.

And this "shitty core" is the only reason this team is even in a playoff spot currently. our top 6 (particularly our stars) has outperformed the competition by a clear margin. Meanwhile our bottom 6 is constantly caved in and unable to create anything.

It's not a matter of throwing his body around... it's a willingness to get off the perimeter and get into the dirty areas in front of the net to make something happen. He's never done anything like that at any point of his career. He is the definition of perimeter player.

I mean Palat tries, he’s just cooked…most of the anger towards him should be more being annoyed at Fitz for overpaying.

And yeah he does get shit on plenty, but ultimately him getting thirty five points instead of 50 is not the biggest issue with the team, certainly not as big an issue as a 23-year old declining for two straight years anyway
