Timo was never gonna be the same guy he was in SJ after he got traded, he had like 7-8 shot games regularly. You're going to get Timo from like 2016-2019 ish where the Sharks were competing for the West regularly and he had 30 goals and 60 points a year while being a bruising top 6 forward. We probably slightly overpaid him but he also came off a career year, was one of the best players in that year's playoffs for NJ and had ALL the leverage in contract talks. He had a perfect storm for his contract

I've been the president of the Alex Holtz fan club on this board but yeah I'm not gonna lie once I saw that Grier didn't want Holtz even with the success he had with Eklund in the SHL, it was a bad sign for his trade value around the league

It took him a while this year but he has actually gotten himself back up there. He's now up to 11th in 5v5 shots/60 on the year, 5th in iCF/60 and ixG/60, 4th in iSCF/60, and 8th in iHDCF/60. 85th in G/60 though. It should just be a matter of time before the pucks start to go in for him.

Likely not coincidentally his shot rate really took off starting in Florida which was the game Noesen got moved onto that line. It's basically a month to the day of that and he's played 13 games. He's 1st in 5v5 shots/60 by a WIDE margin of 1.5 shots/60. That's a larger gap between 1 and 2 than Brady at 2 and Marchment at 12th. Also BY FAR 1st in ixG/60 at 1.76. Rust is next a 1.42. Again a larger gap than Rust at 2 and Vatrano/Reichel T21st. As you'd expect also wide margins in iCF/60 and iSCF/60. The bum needs to pick it up in iHDCF/60. He's ONLY 7th over that span.

In the first 18 games before that he was 95th in shots/60, 123rd in ixG/60, 65th in iCF/60, 78th in iSCF/60, 44th in iHDCF/60

Over the past month even without getting the PP1 bump he's 1st in total shots/60, iCF/60, iSCF/60, 3rd in ixG/60 (Noesen 2nd lol), and 11th in iHDCF/60

Mercer, Nemec+++ for Cozens? :naughty:

That's horrendous. I'd be into that for Tage (they wouldn't) but Cozens has been buns. Cozens isn't even all that different from Mercer.

I'd be all over Dylan Cozens if we could make it work

He's probably better than he's been showing but I mean what reason is there to believe the guy is even considerably better than someone like Mercer? I'm not trading for Cozens making over 7 mil on pace for 17 goals 37 pts and sucks defensively. The only year Cozens had any real success was the year the Sabres went full send and didn't give a single f*** about defense. Cozens did have 31 goals 68 pts but he also shot nearly 15% and has never even eclipsed 9% in any other year. Cozens isn't all that good and is on a bad contract.

I don’t see Buffalo being a realistic trade partner unless they were planning on fully blowing it up.

Yeah, I think the issue is where is Cozens as a player. He might be somewhere in the middle of this year and his 68 point year, the thing I like him about is his shot but yeah he leaves a lot to be desired defensively. Also maybe the out of Buffalo bump helps him out

If we make a package for a big forward, I think Fitz has eyes/heart set on Brady if there's any legit movement there

Eh, Stutzle is really really good too his own regard.

Sure but he's not Jack. He's not Bratt or Nico either

The thing that somewhat scares me about Brady is I doubt he'd re-sign. I imagine he's going to St Louis or Florida after his deal is up. Obviously 3 or 4 years of him is still great but I'd want more considering it'd take an arm and a leg to get him

Anyway it will take at least 3 years and at least 1 cup finals run for anyone outside of NJ to realize how good Jack is defensively.

Small, not faceoff guy, doesn't hit means it's impossible to be good defensively in the eyes of some

Brady's wife is from NJ, I'm sure she'd tell him to stay in NJ + them having a house here in the offseason. The Fitz ties to the Tkachuk family would be tremendous help too. Plus, I'm not giving Fitz any grief about contracts after what he did with Bratt and his agent (Pretty sure Bratt's GF helped with that too since she's from NJ as well and probably wanted to stay close to home) Gotta thank a lot of women for this Devils core

Yeah I know about all the ties he has here (also Hughes' and Tkachuk's are close) but idk still get the feeling he'd end up leaving. Leaving for St Louis is probably not going to happen but idk I think he'd go join Matthew down in Florida. St Louis seems like an end of career thing

I think Brady, at this point, just wants to win. The Devils would give him a very good chance at doing that. I don't know his extra motivations, I'm sure just like we talk about stealing Quinn from Vancouver at some point, that Brady wants to play with Matthew at some point as well. I can definitely see them winning elsewhere in the league and then doing a year or two together late in their careers in St Louis to finish it off.

Brady Tkachuk does not provide enough to us to justify the cost it would take to win a bidding war for him imo.

If his GF forces him to demand to be traded to only us after his NMC, sure.

But just not willing to pay that big for a guy who I don't think really improves our PP, doesn't improve our PK, and I do not think adding him will have the impact you think it will on Jack or Nico's line (honestly I think he'd be best suited on the 3rd line to carry it.

Hamilton+Mercer would be my base in that case

Have no interest in Brady Tkachuk - what the Devils need, ideally, is Ondrej Palat from 5 years ago and maybe an upgrade for the 3rd line somewhere.
