All this discourse (probably warranted...) around Palat and yet we have a guy making $8mill with 20 points in 31 games.

Meier is playing well, he is getting unlucky shooting and he isn't on PP1. He's not worth 8.8M but you take what you can get - this is a type of player the Devils didn't really have, and had nothing like anywhere in their system.

Just judging him off the pt totals makes him look worse than he is. He's not on PP1 really through no fault of his own. The PP needed a right shot instead of Timo and it's been the best in the league since making the swap

Timo needs to start scoring more at 5v5 but he's not really too too far off where he was when he was at his best. Offensively his play has been a lot better the past like 15ish games and he's finally been slinging pucks on net to the level he should. Defensively it's been a massive step up from last year and he's been really strong.

Timo also leads the team in GF% at 5v5 where he's up 21-12. He's at a 59.85% xG which only slightly trails the 2 Hughes brothers leading the team. Jack 60.19% & Luke 60.09%. Min 200 minutes that's 21st in the league.

I was on Timo's ass hard last year because I thought he was playing like shit. He's been pretty great this year. He's likely going to stay underrated and won't truly be worth his contract because of the deflated pt totals but as long as he gets the 5v5 production up slightly and keeps up the puck slinging and dominant play driving he's close enough to being worth the deal

I want to push back against this - it is through fault of his own that Timo isn't on PP1, he's just not very good there. There has been a lot of talk on this board since the Devils traded for Timo about whether Timo or Bratt belongs on PP1 and the people who thought Timo belonged there have gone away. Timo isn't on PP1 because he was by far the weakest player and so he was axed and the PP almost immediately exploded. Timo doesn't belong on a good PP1 except as a featured shooter, because he just doesn't have the awareness to find the right play. He's no good with the puck except when he's putting it on net.

Timo is meant to play more of the role that Nico plays now on PP1.

Frankly, he's arguably a better player for that role than Nico is tbh, however Nico wins draws so it makes sense to keep him on PP1.

Yup. Literally the exact same thing would happen with any other star guy we want to bring in.

Also, I've liked what Luke and Timo have brought to PP2

No judgement, I don't give a flying f*** about point totals.

Wins baby, just give me wins.

It's just funny to me that people shit on Palat for how much he earns.

Actually, the Devils traded away the one guy who was pretty much the same type of player when they got Meier.

I have beef with Kovacevic because he's playing too well for a 4th round acquisition cost and it's making people who don't watch not believe Luke Hughes dominance since his pairing has also been dominant smh

Kovacevic has nothing to do with Hughes development.

It was a joke about how people keep claiming hughes on ice results only look good because of the team he's on.

If Kovacevic and Siegs weren't having such an excellent season together, that narrative wouldn't be nearly as prevalent.

I actually really like Zetterlund and wish he was still here. I would still make that trade though. I still wanted Timo.

I just wish Grier wanted Holtz instead of him. The Sharks seemed to value Holtz as nothing more than a bumass.

2 goals in 29 games playing almost a full minute per game more than we played him last year. I think he is just a bumass.

I always saw it as Yegor or Zetterlund because they were going to want a roster player. I really really wanted them to take Yegor instead

Didn't say as good as.

Just meant Zetterlund was physical, north-south, volume shooter.

Timo is better. But, the Devils did have a knock off version.

They are somewhat similar but obviously where Meier distinguishes himself is with his speed.

I don't think there is ever a chance that they would've gone for Yegor (eligible to become UFA in 2025) over Zetterlund (eligible to become UFA in 2027).

Timo was never gonna be the same guy he was in SJ after he got traded, he had like 7-8 shot games regularly. You're going to get Timo from like 2016-2019 ish where the Sharks were competing for the West regularly and he had 30 goals and 60 points a year while being a bruising top 6 forward. We probably slightly overpaid him but he also came off a career year, was one of the best players in that year's playoffs for NJ and had ALL the leverage in contract talks. He had a perfect storm for his contract

I've been the president of the Alex Holtz fan club on this board but yeah I'm not gonna lie once I saw that Grier didn't want Holtz even with the success he had with Eklund in the SHL, it was a bad sign for his trade value around the league
