I really think we need a LW for Jack. Not sure how that happens being up against the cap though.

Meier-Hischier-Noesen
??????-Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Haula-Mercer
Cotter-Lazar-Tatar?

Will not work. Haula is not a good enough center to carry two anchors, but he's also just not good at creating offense. Mercer is lost and Palat needs to get lost. And don't get me started on Tatar. We should have never signed him but if the players wanted him back, I have no problem.

We really need another center to be considered a contender. I'm confident we'll make the playoffs, but not so sure we win the cup without addressing the center position.

Cotter has 12 points in 30 games. He has fallen off a cliff after that hot start to the year. I dont know if he is battling some sort of injury but he is still basically a 3rd line player at best. He's been invisible offensively for the last 10 games.

It's a shame that our bottom 6 has gone cold. We need to make a trade and need Bastian/Lazar back.

Tatar is better than Palat at this point. And probably by a whole lot. I’d rather have him back next year (on a one year deal for less than he’s making now) than ever see Palat again.

I agree. Can we now admit MM was worth 4-5M on a 5yr deal?

Tatar haters, please go.

He's not as good as he was 2 years ago, but his on ice numbers are better than team baseline (and he's not getting carried by his time with Nico, either, his numbers w the bottom sixers are mostly better than his time in the top 6).

So this guy Sharnazz has a show on TSN? And he's pulling shit straight out his ass?

Nah, just a garden variety troll account on Twitter. Pretty sure his M.O. is to claim that he "heard" a reporter say something on a radio interview that never happened. But most people won't try to locate the supposed interview and will just take his word and propagate false info.

even if I agreed with your premise (I don't probably), is this something that is important to relitigate?

I'd honestly prefer if we went full damnatio memoriae

He was a significant player for us. We have not replaced him. My point about the contract is, what are we willing to pay for a center today? I'm suggesting we allocate our salary cap and emotional bandwidth for the potential cost of replacing this former player.

Paying a bottom six forward $4-5 million long term sounds like a good way to not be a Cup contender anymore.

Yes, yes, we've already done it with Palat, etc, etc.

My point is we don't need or want another. You find cheap quality depth where you can, rather than overpaying role players.

I know we want to memory hole Rapey McGee, but the fact is that he was the exact kind of guy we needed on the bottom six. Maybe we can target his non-criminal brother if Buffalo sells off at the deadline.
I don't think anyone will argue with you. There was no way he should or could have stayed here... but yeah it's flying under the radar how big of a loss he was.

This team needs exactly him.

Guilty as charged
