BTW. I still think Fitzgerald will still be looking for a goalie end of next season. He knows this is a band aid. We could swing for the fences next off season, and then have Markstrom as a backup for one year (or buy him out if he sucks).

Something needed to be done this year. There weren't a lot of good options. Ulmark and Saros only have one year left - and may want to go to UFA route. So you would be giving up more assets, and then you're back at it again.

Yes - we did that with Meier. And I was ok with that for different reasons. He was younger, a forward and you knew more/less would he would get paid. What does Ulmark expect? He's a wildcard. Saros you kind of know., and you know it'll be a lot.

This isn’t surprising. I don’t think people realize how low Holtz’s trade value is.

I promise I'm not going down this road again but Calgary shouldn't have been able to have a choice...we should have told them to F'off.

They flubbed the Markstrom situation the first time....they forced us to waste assets on two other goalies because of it... Calgary created a bad situation for us and Markstrom...there is no way he was going to be on their roster this year...

Markstrom has a NTC and we know that was willing to come here...we should've told Calgary to take a hike, here's what we're offering a 25 1st and a B/C level prospect...see ya

Edit: hell I don't even want to add the 1st.

Might get some heat for this and it’s a disappointing thing to say but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Holtz completely out of the league in a couple years.

Hopefully he finds a consistent game this season.

Again the 25 first is much more valuable than Bahl or Holtz. There was also other teams in the picture and not a ton of other options. We didn’t have all the cards like you keep suggesting.

The value of the First in relationship to Bahl is not the point.

The point is Markstrom is not worth a 1st and Holtz or Bahl.

Id argue he's not worth the first alone. Let alone the pick and a roster player.

Pesce was credited with just 25 hits last season. Not what we need

If you're right, then he's shopping for a goalie AGAIN and without a #1 in the upcoming draft. And if he does have the #1 then there's a whole other slew of problems. Not a good spot to be in...again!

This isn’t surprising. I don’t think people realize how low Holtz’s trade value is.

I mean, it's hard to have trade value when the GM drags him publicly every time his name is brought up.

That said, I don't think Fitz is particularly interested in trading Holtz or ever really was. He was Fitzgerald's first draft pick as GM, they obviously see the talent in him and don't want to give up. They are going to be patient and give him every opportunity to be the guy they want him to be.

No point in selling low on him, especially with a new coach and new system coming in.

I don’t think it has anything to do with what Fitz says. I think when teams watch him they see a guy that can’t keep up that well.

Not big guys, who don’t skate well or have elite skills don’t last that well in the NHL. I felt the same way about Gusev after his 44 points in 66 games season and took some heat for it. Was out of the NHL by the end of the season.

Holtz is younger, bigger, has a better shot and maybe a bit more skill but I’m not sure he’s skilled enough to overcome his lack of physical tools.

I also think Fitz would have offered Holtz before Bahl in the Markstrom trade and maybe even before Zetterlund in the Meier trade. I just don’t think he has much appeal or value to other teams.

Have we heard of anything about Dougie's health? Is he 100% now? Has it been confirmed?

If Fitz is looking at Pesce I'm thinking something is wrong with Dougie or Marino would be on the way out.

I can totally see Fitz adding Pesce and moving Marino out for a bottom 6 forward.

I get the feeling he really wants to shake up the defense. Hamilton Hughes and Nemec are the only guys that are safe. I believe anyone else could be moved out in a deal or with the signing of certain FAs.

It’s not about prospect hoarding it’s about understanding in a couple years players like Luke, Nemec, Hischier and eventually Jack again will be due big contract extensions and the team will need good ELC talent for cap purposes.

The only players worth trading that pick for is young high end players with RFA years or a legit star, trading that pick for any veteran top 4 LD is not good asset management.

I realise this, but hopefully the first next year will be a late first. What chances does that player ever have of contributing??? Whereas Markstrom makes us a significantly better team now and for the next two years....

It's not like we can't pick players in rounds 2-7 either....

I'll stand by the fact that, if offered, I'd trade the 10th overall this year to get an impact player for now.

I'm thinking about it. Its not im fully against. I would stay before our pick and would make decision in the moment. Buium and Dickinson would be better but we don't know will they or will they not be available.

If Winnipeg would do this deal (I don't think they would), it's a no brainer for this team. McGroarty is everything this team needs and more. Complete player.

Interesting and I think what you are saying makes sense. I wonder if he is going to revamp the D?

Would seem a bit risky. I mean Marino has been our most reliable Defenseman defensively and he is our #1 PKer...but I also think that the Luke - Marino pairing didn't really work well for whatever reason. That might be a reason to make a change?

No thanks to Pesce on the term/AAV he will demand. Heck I don’t even love the player that much. I have more time for Zadorov than him if I’m being honest.

I still think Holtz could become something. Could he be a first line forward as most thought he would? No, I don't think so, but he still scored 16 goals with limited ice-time/opportunity this season. I could see him becoming a useful middle-6 guy.

I just think his awareness without the puck, compete and board play need to improve a lot. It's possible, and hopefully Keefe can bring that into him. He's still only 22 years old and next year will only be his 2nd full season in the league.

I think part of it was who Calgary has at the moment. They have their own Holtz-type prospect with Matthew Coronato who's on the cusp. Not counting Coronato, they already have 12 forwards signed for next season. So they didn't have a natural spot for Holtz.

Whereas on defense they had 5 players after Nikita Okhotiuk opted to go back to Russia. And two of those five were waiver claims who maybe won't crack their opening night roster.

Might be easier said than done to acquire Holtz and try to immediately spin him into a D.

The question is what impact player can the Devils get for 10th overall?
