Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
HUGE fan of this. I think he should get a deal at league min as the 13th F atm inimum
We need to shed cap on that fourth line if we're going the FLA route. Bjugstad, Noesen and a Cotter raise aint going to cut it. Waaaay to much cash tied up in junk better spent elsewhere.

Cotter is interesting but ultimately not a fit on the fourth line because he isn't a defense first guy.

Bjugstad is overpaid for what he is, which isn't much. Noesen probably will never be the same player.

All of these guys need to be cut loose and the money re-deployed.

Would love to move on from Dillon at least on the back side and maybe Kovasevic, if it opens room for Casey.

Went through and took a look at every underlying metric guy who may potentially be available.

Evan Rodrigues may be the best available underlying numbers out there (also only 3 million in cap) But the Overall easy winner of available is Viktor Arvidsson, holy crap

McTavish and McCann both look good but had down years analytically compared to past. Let me know if there is any guys you want me to take a look out outside of this!

TLDR: Go Sign Viktor Arvidsson, then go trade for Evan Rodrigues

Summer of Sunny is HERE. I have no idea who this is

"Lombardi’s game is one of speed and skill. As he races defenders along the perimeter, he looks for teammates on the inside. He connects with backhand and forehand passes under or over defenders’ sticks without much windup. If a pass isn’t an option, he beats defenders with a combination of handling skill and well-conceived setups. He puts the puck into a defender’s space, waits for the poke, then chips the puck under their stick or pulls it around – and he’s confident making these plays off the backhand and under heavy pressure."

Had 40 points in B2B years in the AHL. Screams big time low buy from Sunny here. 23 year old C/LW

So many folks are quick to dump on Kovocevic. The guy came off major ACL surgery and it’s well documented that it takes at least a year for an athlete to get back to peak performance. He was damn good the prior season. I can hate on Fitzgerald for a laundry list of items, including giving this player a NTC. However, I won’t hate on him for resigning what looked like a promising d-man to a very reasonable contract in 4m AAV.

Much needed center help for Utica at the very least.

Agree. He can be one of the best defensive D in the NHL. Think his deal is a steal and will give him a full season to prove it

Perfect deal for Lombardi, I was going to go through rosters and look for guys like this - he's waiver-eligible next season. With teams no longer needing to shed cap, teams have no interest in playing guys like this. He'll be on the roster to start the season unless something goes terribly wrong.

A+ deal solely for acquiring a player named Amadeus. Reminds me of the hit 80’s song….

He makes $4 mil. He does not have a NMC he has a NTC and you have no idea if his existence played any role in moving Nemec. I think Nemec was the prime and very predominant reason for moving Nemec.
Hahaha yes I know you are always right.

I just want something else that’s good to happen (like everyone else here) so I can forget that we just gave away nemec

He also wasn't that good once Siegs left the lineup even before he got hurt.

Sounds like a skill set you would want to draft in the 4th round. Considering he's 23, you're just expediting to process of development.

It's worth a shot. If it hits, then he could be a useful 3rd or 4th line player.

FWIW, one of the redwings fans had him listed as a guy they were worried about getting rid of in that thread on the main board.
