It's not getting locked until they are eliminated FYI.

Should we start posting the tragic number instead (I believe it's 12 points either gained by Columbus/Detroit or lost by us)? It IS related to our chances at the playoffs, after all :P

:(

Haha I don't even know what it would be.

If Detroit loses today they can push it back to 3 points tomorrow.

I didn't see a team with loads of heart last night. Or vs Phoenix. Or when Detroit was kicking our behinds, or Boston.

We are a workman like bunch. Which to me is different then having a ton of heart.

not really fair. They were down 2-0 versus Phoenix and fought back to tie

Regardless of what Detroit does today they Devils can be back to 3 points out of one of the wild cards on Monday since Columbus doesn't play until Tuesday (and they have a very tough game)

Exactly. From a pure math and on paper stand point the team is still alive.

The problem is in practice they can't put it together. I don't feel good about their ability to just start winning but as long as the chance is still there and other teams keep losing going to keep trying to have faith.

I really want that bruins game on my birthday to mean something.

Maybe but unrealistic based on this season's history

Does anyone know how many days the Devils have spent within the top 8 spots in the conference this year? Just curious, I would assume other than the Sabres the Devils have spent the least amount of time in a playoff spot this year.

All it would take is another combo of the Devils losing in regulation and a Detroit(and Columbus) win, right?

That's what it seems like to me. Devils have been hanging by a thread for awhile now.

Only a matter of time before that thread snaps and the Devils fall into the abyss of "No Playoffs" again.

Offhand I'd say zero days, given the horrific start.

They have been on the bubble all year. The lack of any sustained winning streak kept them from holding a spot.

They only started to fall back around the SS game. Decent start out of the break closed the gap and coupled with toronto's collapse opening up both wild card spots have remained on the bubble ever since.

Odds are they will stay near the bubble close to the end but most likely fall short. 2-3 points be my guess unless they actually pull together starting tomorrow.

The shootout woes can't be ignored.

If there were still ties they are a playoff team. If they win half their shootouts they are a playoff team. They win a quarter of them they are I think 2 points out and very possibly a playoff team by the end.

The gimmick sucks but it's part of the game. It's just a shame that that may well be the reason the team misses because it's just arranging deck chairs and luck.

Point is the argument that this roster is so horrible it was never a playoff team is bunk when all it takes is a few lucky bounces in the gimmick to put them in.

Eddy, You can also make the argument that had the Devils WON the games that they lost leads late in the 3rd quarter in, they'd be in a playoff spot right now.

The other side of the coin is the great OT record. It all evens out. Devils are not a playoff team.

True, but 9 points because of the gimmick, when the difference right now is 5 is big.

It is easy to explain lost leads. They weren't good that day. There are actual hockey reasons for that. You can point to reasons, whether its the coach or the players or Lou.

When literally the difference between the playoffs and not is a damn gimmick is annoying. And the OT record doesn't it even out, because you get games like the Yotes game where they just turtle for the entire OT and play for the shootout.

Believe it or not, if we win the next two games, and CBJ loses to COL, we could be 1 pt out of a spot heading into Wednesday. Honestly if this team can't beat the Islanders, Panthers, and Sabres at this time of the year, they don't deserve it. I mean, could they ask for an easier 3 games?

That's exactly it. If there was ever a time for another 3 game win streak, by all means it should have been Islanders, Panthers, Sabres. How the hell do you **** that up?:shakehead

We seem to find a way. IF (and it's a big if) they win the next two things could turn around.

You really can't ask for it any easier. Aren't the next two at home as well?
