Missed the game because I'm old and it was past my bed time, but I like this score.
I try not to harp on this too much because there’s nothing that can be done about it and it just gets me irritated, but the reffing was absolutely disgraceful last night.
I get that game management is going to happen, but the balance of calls was f***ing clown shit. 5-1 minor penalties. f*** off.

I'm a sucker for multiple pass sequences but the Hughes to Bratt to Nico goal may be the prettiest goal we've scored in a decade.

Good teams win even when they don’t play their best. The Devils didn’t play their best game and still won, so does this mean…?
I thought they blew the fight situation in the 2d period too. They didn’t call the guy boarding Bastian. That triggered the Wood retaliation and the whole melee. Arguably they missed Bastian as the third man in. Two Canucks then get game misconducts. Schenn who just wouldn’t stop fighting.
As to the 5 - 1 penalty disadvantage, that perhaps reflected that we really didn’t have our legs in this game. We had so many turnovers and blunders and were chasing the play.
Still, besides opportunistic goals, our commitment to defense and defensive structure, positional play and Blackwoods saves, are what won us that game.
We battled hard and kept our positions to get up 4 to zip. Which just shows you can have games where your skating just isn’t there but your battle level on D is still very high. Which battling with the stick will get you penalties.
Special teams too. A power play goal early and a shorthanded goal got us the commanding lead. Before giving up those two goals from the bumper in garbage time.

Ha - I just checked my sleep stats from last night and had the same thing...5 1/2 hours. Already dragging this morning, but it was well worth it.
This team is just so much fun to watch right now so I'm enjoying every minute of it. Even with a sluggish start to the game last night they were up 2-0 before they really started to take control.
Thursday night's game against Edmonton will be fun. Fortunately that one starts an hour earlier so it won't be as tough of a morning on Friday. LFGD!!!

If going into this Canada trip, the thought was, "we don't want to play VV in every game" then this was the game to give to Blackwood.
Now did Blackwood earn another start? Personally I'd go VV on Thursday and then make the call off of that for the final game of the trip. Given Blackwood got a game after a VV win, VV getting a game after a Blackwood win only seems fair. If there is to be a debate regarding goal tender usage that would be the game.
But I don't see last nights decision as a bad call.

I think he was playing the weaker goalie against weaker competition in order to get V2 a break before we play the much tougher teams on this trip.

Yes this was a big debate pre-game.
Myself, Bleed, and others were stunned that Blackwood and not Vitek was starting.
The belief was that Blackwood would start one of the Calgary games during our home and home with them and if he played well and we somehow beat them, that's just a bonus but he was more or less going to be the sacrificial lamb to give Vitek a day off.
Lindy throwing him out there in a game that the Devils had to win to at least not go 0-4 on this trip was a complete stunner and a good number here were not happy about it.
I'm still not happy about the Decision even now.
Happy about the win but the Decision still sucked.
I think there is a maturation consideration amongst the players, also everybody being healthy, but the PP improvement is so significant that the new coach has to get significant credit.
