Looking at the standings and still seeing so little separation makes the goaltending blowups in the losses still sting a lot. I'm not going to get over those until we're in the clear.

The only thing that doesn’t look playoff caliber is the goaltending.

And the shot differential has been so good that it’s made it irrelevant for the most part.

All this Blackwood injured talk now makes me skeptical he would have even went this long without a start if not for that. Between what he said and what Lindy said. He might have even played that Avalanche game if he didn’t have a hurt elbow. That was the night after the practice he missed.

Oilers are going to be a really tough game on Thursday. I feel like if we can get out of this trip with 4 points though that would be fantastic.

The Oilers can be scored on. I really like our group up front against their D. Whoever is in net for us will have to be on their game because the Oilers can score in bunches. Will be a big test.

I don’t really disagree, I think the goalies have had easier games, just because our shot differential has been massively one sided in almost all the games other than the Colorado game.

And that was the one game where the goalie really played a significant part in and the goalie in that game was Vanecek.

I remain skeptical, but if he proves us fans wrong come mid season, he deserves some fanfare. Fans at The Rock would have to atone.

Dunno man, I am going to give Blackwood the benefit of the doubt until he proves me wrong. Hopefully it was injuries and COVID that really affected his play the last few years. At least that is what I am hoping and the Devils actually have two good goalies to rely on.

I think Mac's been inconsistent in the past. I want to see him keep up his play before I believe in him. Maybe it's like someone else here said... he flounders when he's overworked.

I see no reason not to give them a pretty even split for now. If one guy really takes off then great but no reason to just hand it to one guy when neither has separated themselves. MacK's also been the better goalie at 5v5. 9 GA on ~9 xGA. Vanecek 8 GA on ~5 xGA. Vanecek has been great on the kill with 0 GA on 2.5 xGA while MacK's given up 4 on 3 xGA. AS MacK has given up 15 on 13 xGA and Vanecek 9 on ~8 xGA. Both are a bit below average which is workable for us.
