This is viewership bias. Bad plays by your team stick out more than good plays unless the good plays convert. Devil's generated some good chances there that didn't actually go in net.
This is reality bc the magnitude and impact of bad plays(really bad plays) aren't accurately measured by stats. You could corsi it up, and then Smith or Dougie do what they've done this period. Or Bratt puts it on someone's stick like the caps game. Or Ovechkin breakaway, or Severson seversons..

Not at all. For all the missplays or turnovers there were usually players in support positions and the forwards did a nice job filling when the defense challenged the play.

It felt like most of the trouble was right around the blue line and NZ. The chips and short passes were a little lazy and some, truthfully, just werent bouncing the right way.

Meanwhile, Zacha & Hall save the day for the Bs....

Turnstile on a Taco Bell commercial is weird.

I doubt anyone other than me on here would have known who they were 5 years ago.

Or maybe even as recently as 1-2 years ago.

I really want to beat the Vancouver team everyone thought we should trade our entire future for.

It's hard to believe that in the past calendar year, rumors have floated that NJ would/should trade top prospects and first-round picks for decent-but-not-great Canucks' forwards like Brock Boeser, JT Miller and Conor Garland. Thank the stars Tom Fitzgerald was smarter than this.

The first period was pretty encouraging. The Devils did not play particularly well -- missed passes, turnovers and horrible shooting accuracy -- and still lead 2-0. Good teams find a way to win when they're not on top of their games. Last year, the Devils were the opposite -- several games NJ outplayed the opposition only to lose on the scoreboard. But again, the 2022-23 Devils are looking like a very formidable team.

It's funny as we approach the 10-game mark to think how hysterical some people became that the Devils did not get a big-name forward in the off-season. As it happens, John Marino filled a more pressing need and, thus far this season, has possibly been the most impact off-season acquisition in the entire NHL, give or take Nazem Kadri.

Looking forward to the rest of the game!

The road feeds have been pretty suspect for a couple years now, particularly when the announce team aren't physically in the building.

I only saw the PP goal now and it looked like something I would imagine Caps/Pens/Bruins and their veteran core score. LGD!

Yes. I remember going to a playoff game way back when. Must have been '91 or '92-- first round vs the Pens. The one vivid memory I have of it is Mario making us look like fools on the PP with a quick cross-ice pass. The Pens made it look so easy. That goal reminded me of it; good call.

PP goal was very nice . A goal that kicks like what we are capable of doing skill wise.
I thigh we played decent. Few really good shifts but some others we made dumb passes too coise to our own net. Overall I’d say decently played and zero complaints being up 2-0 .
One shit hit Demkos shaft of his stick … little unlucky for us

Yeah, it would take a magnitude of a data input model that frankly outweighs my skills as both a data engineer and a hockey knowledge haver to properly weight every single scoring chance, and it would be impossible to do in real time. Smarter people than me have tried.

But xGF% usually does a decent job of telling the story at the end of the day. This period might be one example where it's not quite fair to what the Canucks were able to do, but again as fans of the Devils we probably overrate some of those chances because we want to see the team play perfect.
