I think he was referring more to his play on the PK.

Oh, he was speaking about the PK before that.... Possible!

On the unrelated note, Haula still looks slow as molasses, I assume that is due to the injury and slow recovery... Foot/ankle injuries take forever to get close to 90-100% if they ever do.

that goal today was not technically a SHG, but Jack in ~45 shorthanded minutes this year is outscoring the opposition 2 goals to 1 when he is on the ice lol
Without seeing actually statistics it certainly feels like that is true. Jack and Bratt are just relentless with how aggressive they are on the point to create turnovers for an 2 on 1 the other way.

I know there were questions today about when the team would practice next, and in the postgame video Keefe mentioned the team having 9 days off. That would put them back at practice on Tuesday 2/18.

The 17th is the last day of 4 nations regular games so that makes sense so only the 2 teams who make the final game on the 20th would be the players missing from practice.

Oh for sure, Haula was pretty bad other than the PK but I think it was mostly Keefe just trying to praise a veteran who's been out for a while and not throwing him under the bus.

i didn't catch the last game, or most of this game. I heard Nemec was pretty awful vs. Vegas. Did he improve today?
As bad as him and Luke were last game it was the complete opposite in this one, pretty solid overall, they both had a couple of really nice plays breaking up what would have been other wise great chances against. Luke had a goal as well.

I’d say it was a bit of a mixed bag. Nemec was very solid positionally to my eyes and was good with carrying and passing the puck. But he stlll looked half a step too slow to react and had some struggles against the wall and with contested puck movement. Not bad on defense all things considered and good with any open space with or without thr puck .

I also don't see it with this Montreal core. I don't think they'll be a playoff team next year or even three years after that.

The team will be a handful after Demidov comes over. His ceiling is ridiculous and his play style looks more NHL-friendly than Michcov, who’s filthy but quirky.

They got a number of good center prospects too (must be nice lol).

i remember all the trade proposals for sending Caufield over to us, to play with Jack. I was opposed because that makes our forwards too small overall. And I still feel that way.

But Caufield is a really good player. The young goalie Doubas cooled off, but he flashed pretty crazy during his hot streak. Hutson clearly a player. I'm also still rooting Slafkovsky

They do have a nice young group. The girls for them will be knowing when to move on from some guys and when to add some different elements to complement their young players. As Buffalo has shown it’s difficult to just keep adding young players and hoping they can learn to compete without good veteran leadership.

Just glad they won this one. Allen was the difference maker as well as Jack & Bratt.

We were giving up way too many scoring chances in the first half of the game but Allen had gn amazing game in goal. Jack and Bratt too. They just gotta find a way to get more push with their 2nd and 3rd line. Whether they do it without Nico in the lineup and any trade deadline acquisition will remain to be seen after the break.

Came here to say this. Thought Nemec was solid today.

This was Allen’s best game as a Devil from my point of view. He simply looked so secure and sure. Rebound control and positioning. His angles, jumping out above the blue paint to take away the net on a couple of key shots in the first. His anticipation of plays, like in his stop on Caulfield coming across the crease at a key moment. Never over reacting. Really he almost didn’t look like the same guy.

I thought we won the first period clearly and loved how we did what Noesen said post game on Thursday - got the puck deep, controlled possession and played in the Montreal end. The first 12 minutes of the 2d period until we got the second goal were dicey. That was where Allen won us the game and we bent but didn’t break.

I think Montreal has a bright future. They are not only fast but big and strong. Is Hutson the guy they took over Mitchkov? Whatever, he’s a stud and sort of a pocket lesser version of Makar. Also the big guy with the name i can’t remember that starts with X.

No, they took Reinbacher over Michkov in 2023. He injured his knee in a preseason game, had surgery and will be most of the
season.

The Habs got Hutson in the 2022 2nd Rd with their 4th (!) pick in that draft.

Yeah this notion Luke's horrible at defense because he turns it over here and there is way overplayed. But then again the people who think Luke is horrible generally don't think anyone with offensive talent who drives play can actually play defense in the first place and only think the stay-at-home slugs play D.

I do think there's still value in stay-at-home defensemen but that's partly cause you're not going to find six guys with Luke's quickness and puck moving ability anyway.
