Most either aren't old enough to have seen it or just don't remember it if we are old enough, but Scott Niedermayer was not unlike current Luke Hughes. Particularly in his one full season pre-Lemaire, but still for a bit in the very early Lemaire years.
Luke doesn't have the offensive upside that Niedermayer had though

5-3 without Markstrom (including the game we lost him in). 4-3 without Nico (including the game we lost him in).

We kept our heads above water in the stretch where we were missing two of our most important players. Nothing has been ideal or perfect, but we’re still in a good spot.

Much needed break time, and hopefully a fully healthy squad come the final stretch.

Lou sprint? You mean Lou would have glared at the podium until either it sheepishly shuffled itself over to him or some flunkies would have appeared from nowhere with short hair no mustache or beard wearing suits to carry the podium over to him.

Lou would have had his lacky, David Conte, do the sprinting. Just like he did to draft Adam 'steal of the draft' Larsson.

Nice to win against a team they should beat.

Good to see Montreal start to dip again so maybe they get proactive on moving Evans, whether it's here or elsewhere.

What a game by Allen.
Is this the first time a goalie on the Devils stoned his former team? Usually they shit the bed when they play their former team.

missed the game but nice to get a win before the break. This place would have a been a horror show these next two weeks lol.

When does Dave Rogalski start getting credit?

The goaltending has been tremendous this year.
I wanna see if the goaltending can be good two years in a row before I give him any credit.

The one rational defense people had for him was that he never had talented goalies to work with here, which I agreed with. And I never blamed him for some of the goalies being that bad. Jon Gillies was an .885% on an expected .905% here. He just really sucked. I don't think a good goalie coach could have made him competent for very long.

That said, I also think it's fair to halt criticism of Rogalski for now. I'm not really giving him any benefit of the doubt, but I think I can give him a stay of execution.

What are you complaining about? If you live in Montreal you’re basically guaranteed to see a win if you go to a Devils game.

Think of the poor Devils fans who live in Winnipeg and only get to see the Devils stomped like a narc at a biker rally. And they have to live Winnipeg on top of that!

I kid, I kid, I’m sure Winnipeg is uh, very nice.
Winnipeg is trash.

Here I said it.

Markstrom did shutout the Canucks earlier in the season, which was his second to most recent team before us. Not his most recent.

I did forget about that one myself, probably because of how badly we blew them out. I don't think that game was ever in question. I think we scored a goal on the first shift and added a bunch fairly early.

This game felt like it could have went the other way until we made it 2-0. There was still some doubt on my part going into the 3rd until we killed that penalty and the 3-0 goal took them out of the game.

There was actually quite a while in the 2nd period where it looked like Allen might have to win this one 1-0.

I know you don’t get the whole picture from watching the recap, however, it looks like Allen was awesome, because it didn’t look like we played a good defensive game. I could be wrong, but it sure looked like we gave up some really good scoring chances to Montreal. I guess a win is a win and you take the two points.

I’m on a subway heading to a movie and you aren’t my real Dad.

Wait, maybe you’re referring to other posters…
Hope you are seeing Companion. Great movie

Edit: oh with your Dad. Hope it’s a different one then lmao but def go see Companion

I've been hard on him but Allen has been the best player since the Markstrom injury IMO. It looked like it was gonna be rough sledding with him after that first Philly game.

I don't even think he played bad against Buffalo or Vegas.
Up to .930 for 2025

Prob a top 5 goalie of this calendar year so far.

I also don't see it with this Montreal core. I don't think they'll be a playoff team next year or even three years after that.

Allen was phenomenal.

Awesome game, exactly what this team needed. Was nice going into someone elses arena and ruining their day. Loved Jake stopping the penalty shot, he deserved the shutout.

Hopefully Nico and Markstrom can get healthy before the games start again.

I know a lot of you don't care about the 4 Nations tournament but I'm looking forward to it and I plan on going to the final in Boston if the US makes it but I plan on being disappointed and them not making the final anyway lol
