It’s a big deal. Fitz clearly had to give up more pieces overall but he kept..

L. Hughes
Mercer
Holtz
Nemec
Casey

Best prospects and players are still in tact which is good stuff. I’m happy.
this is something that people need to focus on instead of the "quantity" we gave up.

The fact that we didn't give up Holtz or Casey ('cause no way in hell Luke, Nemec, or Dawson would be involved) in this deal is incredible.

Now we'll see how Fitz does in the re-signing-his-own-players department.

no he isn't. Hes like our 5th best prospect.

I like the guy as much as the next guy, but come on.
Our 5th best prospect is #2 or 3 in most teams. I'd bet he will be playing in the NHL next season.

Either way, it's basically Mukh, Zetterlund, and 2 1sts potentially. That's a lot to give up, but manageable for Meier. Hopefully we hang onto next year's 1st unless we win the cup or something.

Absolute steal. Cannot fathom how people would be upset about this. Assuming we get an extension done of course.

Quantity != Quality

We give up a 3rd line winger, one solid defenseman prospect who MIGHT play in the NHL one day, one meh defenseman prospect that probably is a career AHLer, Johnsson who is a known whatever, a pick in the late 20s, and a conditional pick that might be in the late 20s or even in the 50s depending on the conditions. We get back a known stud winger who is a great fit given our current roster construction. Absolutely love it.

Agreed, none of those assets are particularly painful to lose, even if there's a bunch of them.

Yup. Fitz wouldn't have done this if he wasn't 99% sure he'd get a deal done with Meier. With the team, connections and all I'm not even worried.

Muk has questions marks, and will he even come over? Nikita moved down the prospect list pretty fast. Especially with Casey Nemec and Luke coming soon.

Dumping AJ also helps.

The trade is two firsts and zetterlund for Meier (who will most likely extend )and cap relief.
Muhk is coming over. He has a NHL contract and came over last year.

3 first rounders, a first round talent imo in zetterlund, and a d we had some hope for that played a style we don't have much of.

How much pressure is there to sign meier to a bad contract now?

Meier is a great player in his prime, so in that respect I like it, but its one first rounder too many unless the condition on the 24 is something good.

If i'm SJ I'm pleased too because I personally like Zetts, Ok, and had hope for Muk. Hopefully they do well. It's a really nice little foundation to begin to grow on for them, honestly.

Well, Fitz did it godamn it. Got the big piece we need. Now time to work on the contract.

The payment for Meier is just the price you have to pay. I really like Z, but he's the highest value piece here. You make that trade 10/10 times. None of the Devils' premium assets were included.

It's basically Meier for Z + Muk + 2023 1st + 2024 conditional 1st. The first three components are basically what everyone speculated the deal would be, so I don't mind paying a bit more. We aren't sure what the conditions are yet.

Just get him signed!

That extra first thrown in definitely stings, but Meier is EXACTLY what this team needs. Fitz didn’t hose Grier, but he did managed to acquire him without parting with our top 4 prospects or a core roster player. I’ll miss Zetterlund too though :(

Devils keeping Holtz + the key pieces is huge. It’s not an insignificant return.
It's interesting we kept Holtz, but not sure what that says. Were we intent on keeping him? Or were they not that interested?

Could be a piece in another trade.

While it seems like a lot of pieces, the fact is Luke, Nemec and Casey made some of those defensive prospects expendable. We’re way past needing first round picks at this point. Zetterlund I grew to love but he’s ideally a bottom 6 guy. We also somehow managed to keep Holtz in the fold as well.

How can you not be happy with this?

Two late firsts
Two firsts, Muk, Zetterlund isn't peanuts...

It’s not a home run stash either. Muk hasn’t even come over yet already 3rd year since draft zutter is 3rd line with 2nd line upside. Two late first rounders eh whatever those guys won’t see the nhl for another 5-7 years

I really couldn’t care less about Muk

He has some real Santini potential.

I know I said that about Bahl, but we didn’t pick Bahl with a draft pick we got for I think Blake Coleman?
