Fantastic move considering neither of those picks were originally ours, well done Ray.

Now plZ get some help on d

Quite a few teams.

Detroit, Chicago, Vegas, LA, Philly...

LA could well be the next target. They have a few bad contracts (Brown, Gaborik) and might want to let Muzzin walk if we eat one. Both fill a need at RW as well.

How Vegas managed to get themselves into this hole though... the McPhee praise for all his "shrewdness" before the xpac draft died down fast.

JVR seems to be the guy they are ready to ship out. Good player, but not exactly what we should be looking at right now.

He's the biggest (ever?) star in the NHL from our state. He averages 60 points a season. He just turned 28. It's always the right time to get us some JVR.

Imagine him on a line with Palms. Just need a centerman from Jersey and we've got a top line full of locals.

Isn't gaudreau from NJ ?

I still would keep Henrique and sign Markov. Yeah he's older but here's the important thing to note. It would be a short term deal 2 year and we have the cash, his play hasn't dropped off either and he's still a player you slot in your top 4.

I know defense is a need but we need goal scoring more and keeping Henrique makes us that much deeper.

That certainly makes more sense then trading Rico for a Markov equivalent.

But unless we squeeze guys out I don't see where Markov fits.

Shero has said it's possible we upgrade the D, very interested to see

a)what d-man he brings in

b)how he shuffles the roster in order to fit that addition.

Shero said he was tracking the Caps cap woes for a bit.

He is a ****ing shark.

This is the impressive part. While a lot of people were sitting around saying he's not doing anything, he was. Granted he didn't see something nobody else saw. When Kuznetsov signed that deal everyone knew something had to give, but to pounce on that that quickly is terrific. We got a bonafise top 6 versatile forward for two picks that aren't even ours. Now address the D.

Really would rather keep Henrique. I think his value is low and I'm expecting him to have a better year.

Still holding out we can move Kov + a pick. (assuming we can get Kovy to sign a decent deal)

Don't really think the latter three are in immediate dire straits capwise - although as we've seen with the Caps that can change in a moment. They're still several million off the celing with their key players signed, although in Vegas's case they do still have a D roster crunch (eight one-way contracts, plus Theodore plus two RFA's). I don't know if any of the guys they'd be trading we'd want at this point since they ostensibly ruled out dealing Theodore, Schmidt and I think Miller.

So I'd say the teams to watch for the moment are just Toronto, Chicago, Detroit and Vegas. And the Rangers but don't really see anything happening with us lol

My goodness what a deal by Shero! We have quite the logjam at center and left wing now though but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to convert one of them to right side.

Boyle and MoJo are solid additions. Get one more defenseman and I'll be pretty optimistic heading into this season.

This trade is so good for the team. He's getting a good balance of young vets and solid young guys. Our young core will hit their prime will these guys are still in it. Really smart "layering."

Hall (25)
Henrique (27)
Palmieri (26)
Zajac (32)
Zacha (20)
McLeod(19)
Hischier (18)
Quenneville (22)
Blandisi (21)
Wood (21)
Boyle (32)
Speers (20)
Noesen (24)
Johansson (26)
Average age: 23.7

That's a crazy young group of guys and the timing is good if we can wrangle up some defensemen.

On defense we Severson, Santini and Muller at about 22 years of age. Have to hope Muller at least becomes a good bottom pairing.

Caps fan post just now on the mainboard that reiterates what I said last night. Again, still a great trade regardless:

"Not sure many folks here have really watched Marcus Johansson over the years. As long time Caps fan I have. He's Tomas Fleischmann with more speed but less dangle. His game is more suited to the European and International ice, where you have more time and space. You may think highly of his game in October and November, where tight checking and physicality is not as apparent, but come March you'll be cursing him. Yes he's good on zone entries on PPs (note more time and space and thus he can use his speed) but on 5v5 he'll lose puck possession along the boards the majority of times as he can be easily knocked off the puck. He won't win many puck battles along the boards and behind the net. His passing will drive you nuts as he often makes ill advised passes, i.e. drop or blind passes or "tries" to thread the needle through defense. Playing on a line with Kuznetsov and Justin Williams made him look better than he is. His game is as a passenger, that is he benefits from the hard work of others, but he does not drive the play or makes his linemates better."
