I agree we need to do something with the D but if we move out Henrique then arent we in the same place we were before the trade at forward?

I dont think moving Zacha is smart either.

Guess we will see what Shero has up his sleeve.

Before the trade we had Henrique and no upgrade at D. After a potential trade of Rico we would have Johansson and a Defenseman. We wouldn't be in the same place, we would be better off if we could equal value in the shape of a defenseman.

I'm a Henrique fan and I want to selfishly watch Zacha develop. We need to fix the D and patience isn't really looking like enough via the kids on D. Really can't say it's not smart to trade Zacha until we know what the offer was. If we want to improve the D, reality is we are going to probably need a trade PLUS next years draft to do it.

Now those are news i love to wake up to. A player i like, that fills an immediate need, has a nice contract, is not too old and didn't cost that much because of the Caps cap situation. Sounds like the Palmierie trade 2.0.:handclap:

This also makes a Henrique trade more likely, hopefully for another young dman.

I still would keep Henrique and sign Markov. Yeah he's older but here's the important thing to note. It would be a short term deal 2 year and we have the cash, his play hasn't dropped off either and he's still a player you slot in your top 4.

I know defense is a need but we need goal scoring more and keeping Henrique makes us that much deeper.

Unbelievable deal, I just LOVE IT. Now add a D and we may just be in (playoff) business after all. Finally there's hope and a little light at the end of the tunnel...

I think Johansson pencils in right now as 2nd line LW. I don't think Zacha has that spot on lockdown.

if thats the case...

Definitely feel like i'm forgetting someone.

After thinking about this some more, this trade is a total joke. A complete and utter joke.

What the hell was Washington thinking on this one?

This is where that stupid Orpik contract is really killing them. Knew that would be feces years ago when it was signed.

This is twice in three years the Devils have acquired a top-6 forward for a 2nd and a 3rd that aren't ours. Acquiring those picks has paid off.

Ray was right about when he said he aquired all our picks to put us in a position to make deals.

We weren't able to do much with the 2017 picks but using them all wasn't a bad consolation either.

We are developing a strong pro forward group and a deeper prospect pool.

From listening to Ray Shero's conference call it didn't sound like he has an expectation of him playing RW. It'seems either center or LW from the sound of it. You still do that trade no matter what even if RW is the main priority but what's the solution?

When you can get a young top 6 forward for pennies you do it no matter what side he plays.

I imagine we sign a RW plug worst comes to worst. Obviously would lik a permanent solution, but you do what you can.

I still don't think we have any interest in Radulov due to his desire to get serious term.

His name is P.A. Parenteau? It's either Parenteau, Jagr, or Gionta probably. Or Shane Doan? Alex Chiasson?

Edit: could do worse than Chiasson.

I still don't think we have any interest in Radulov due to his desire to get serious term.

I think Ray made that perfectly clear in his interview. He doesn't want to hand out long term contracts to UFAs. The way he made it sound was the only reason why we chased Shattenkirk in the first place was because Shattenkirk was mainly interested in the type of deal length wise that he received. I think if Radulov was interested in a 3 or 4 year deal we may dip our toe in that pool, but his asking price is ridiculous.

Hopefully we can flip the Russian for a promising younger defender and this offseason will have an even better feel to it. If we make another deal for a defender using a forward on the squad and can get out from under dead weight like Lovejoy in the process, that would be amazing.

The one day freakout yesterday though lol c'mon people. Patience! One deal has changed the complexion of the team going forward to the positive.

It's beyond adorable a bunch of keyboard athletes are giving me **** for this post. I've seen him play over 200 games. Christ. Too many children and/or adults that don't actually understand the game, but think quoting advanced stats with no context proves their point. Bravo HF Devils as always.

And I like the trade and you guys are still being dicks.

It was a Caps fan that posted the advanced stats that were adverse to your critique. This is a message board that is meant for discussion and argumentation. Please don't be offended when people disagree with you. Again, that was a Caps fan...and has certainly watched this player more than you have.

Also, we are all keyboard athletes at this point. If we weren't we wouldn't be on this website. There are plenty of people on this board that have played at whatever level of hockey you ever played at or better. Just because you played the game does not make your opinion matter more. This is something I have seen many times on this board and it has become very irritating. This is coming from someone who has played hockey since I was about 6 btw.

Blandisi will be on the team if he isn't traded.

He is no longer waiver exempt

No, he has one more year before exemption. 18-19 is when he's waiver exempt. He's only completed 2 years in the league since he didnt play in the NHL in 14-15, so he fails the 3 year requirement. He also fails the games requirement (160) since he's only played 92.

We can still send Blandisi down as we please. He's gotta earn his spot. In fact, we have no players in that group (Wood, Blandisi, JQ, etc.) that are waivers exempt this season.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for that kind of return for the Russian. It isn't impossible, but i am not sure it is likely.

I think people need to put a little more faith in a Severson and Santini too. Both kids have a lot of promise. I'm now Lovejoy fan, but if those two can start pushing him down to 3D by the end of the season we will be ok on the right side.

We absolutely need to address the left side though. Easily the biggest hole on the roster is LD

I've always kind of liked Johanssen, so I'm perfectly okay with the deal. Our forward group looks so much better than it did just a couple of years ago. Now on to the defense Ray...

Marcus Johannson is a very devilish player. I do really like this trade. Not too flashy but has always been a great player in his role for the caps. I am very pleased with the trade.
