Why does getting MoJo mean we have to immediately jettison Henrique?

Remember when Rico was on the third line? Remember depth?

They don't 'have' to at the moment, but let's face it our C/LW depth is the only thing that's theoretically worth moving for D help which is still a pressing need. You can't literally outscore teams with no D at all.

Plus if Nico/McLeod/Quenneville are all ready to play with the big club there's going to have to be decisions made regardless. You have Hall, Zajac, Johansson, Henrique and Zacha all definites for the top nine C/LW spots and Nico likely. If one of them shifts over to RW that leaves one spot for a McLeod/Quenneville.

(oops wrong thread)
I was looking for the Shero is the worst GM thread) !

The issue is that both Henrique and Johanssen are 2 years away from UFA. There's no way the Devils should want to retain both (hell, they may not want either). Henrique's value isn't getting any higher, and the Devils can retain salary to make him an attractive proposition to anyone.

He has enough value to get us a decent defenseman, and was lazy as hell last year when we needed him the most.

The Zacha for Hanifin swap would be something I'd do. Love seeing Shero active. If he makes a play for a top 4 D, we know for sure he's trying to go the competitive route next season.

If CBJ is rumored to be on Kovy's list try and get Ryan Murray straight up. If not I think Ray signs Cody Franson and calls it a day before camp.

Either way very happy to see Ray working his magic!!! #inraywetrust

I want no part in Murray. Injured a lot and when he's not injured he usually sucks

You also have Wood knocking around, and Blender who isn't waiver eligible anymore.

4C is locked up now with Boyle too so that isn't an option for them.

4 spots for like 7 players in camp.

Ever since Hall got traded, Devils have been my 2nd favourite team.

You guys are looking real good, you're probably a dman or two away from really making an impact, wish you guys well for this season.

It would have to be an absolute no-doubter that's like 27 or younger (and under team control for more than two years) to risk moving a potential lottery pick.

Depending on the player...
I think that's a risk you've got to take.

He doesn't have to, but someone has to be moved for D. Remember defensive depth?

I don't know what kind of D we could get for Henrique. I guess we could have gone after Scandella, but would that have been worth it? Rico's good for 20-25 goals a year.

I don't know, I just think our offense last year was still more of a problem than our D.

This is a pretty good point. Especially with the progress kids should of made in two years.

Not a whole lot of room for both by then.

I still believe the D market may be all sorts of out of whack, partly due to a trade we benefited from a year ago.

Not saying I'd do it over again though, but the price of defensemen has gotten a little high in the last year. It's also why we essentially got Johansson (a proven forward) for a similar price that we got Mueller (unproven D) for.

seeing JVR getting thrown around here would Bozak also need to be part of a trade to NJD to make sense for Toronto to do it?

Why would they need to get rid of Bozak? Also if they're moving JVR it's going to be for defensive help which we can't supply them with. JVR to NJ is not a fit

Boyle makes a tiny bit more sense right now but still very unnecessary in my opinion.

It makes more sense because it definitely is not for a tank and flip kind of deal...

You got a real timeline to compete with players like Hall, Schneider, Johansson, Palmieri....you can see a horizon a little bit more today than yesterday.

I'm sort of assuming it's Blender/Wood competing for 4LW at this point, I don't think of either as a top nine guy right now.

Johansson is listed seemingly everywhere as a C but hasn't played there in probably 5 years. Much better as a winger anyway. Been used primarily as a LW recently, but he can play either side.

Frequently the whipping boy in Washington, he avoided criticism all year long last year with a career-high in points. While he is the type of player who will go on '9 points in 7 games' streaks and then disappear for an equal amount of games, so are most middle-six wingers. This inconsistency is what caused him to be somewhat disliked by most Caps fans, as he was a 1st round pick who didn't progress much in terms of production after his rookie season.

I highly doubt he'll match his point total from last year now that he isn't playing on Washington's PP setup, but his skillset can be used in pretty much any setup. His role on the Caps' powerplay was as the zone entry guy and the below-the-goalline option, two areas at which he excelled at for years. Putting him in a similar position would make the most of his strengths, since his shot is fairly weak.

He does have some concussion history which is slightly concerning, but he has been healthy for a couple years now so it's not a big worry. This is a steal for you guys, Mojo is worth a lot more than this.
