I can't be the only one seeing a slight resemblence, right?
Now let's move on.

Agree keep Sev's and you "run the risk" of being in a playoff race and not being in position to trade him.
If he's not a guy we are looking to keep long term, then move him out now.
Also If by the deadline Nemac shows he is ready (in the minors or as a call when injuries inevitably hit) you can still trade Severson mid-season if you want to open the spot. (Think theme they traded Hale to open up a spot for Greene). Is it really the end of the world if he helps keep Nemec in Utica and helps the team make a playoff push?
Truthfully I'm cool with futures. We've done a bunch to speed up the timeline, and that was the right thing to do, but a guy like Nylander is too much of a good thing, it would throwing gas on the fire.I don’t think we’re getting a player that checks all of those boxes and also has term in a Severson deal. It’s probably a deal for futures or a player in a comparable contract situation.
No Nass, Recchi, PK... Zacha traded, and now Ty Smith traded, Brunette added as asst coach...that's a grand slam in my book! Keep it coming Fitz.
A right side of Hamilton Marino and Smith could also keep Nemec in Utica, while still getting long term assets for Sev's.Is it really the end of the world if he helps keep Nemec in Utica and helps the team make a playoff push?

Trading Sev's at the deadline really only makes sense if we stink. Which is possible, but not highly probable. Also If by the deadline Nemac shows he is ready (in the minors or as a call when injuries inevitably hit) you can still trade Severson mid-season if you want to open the spot. But don’t deal away your depth before the kids are ready. The team improves by having depth. Something many people on here forget or overlook.

The left side will just have to have Luke or an Ohkotyuk on the 2nd pair. Maybe convince Graves to sign a one year big dollar deal?Severson should return a 1st IMO which we could flip next offseason for a forward, LD to replace Graves if we want to ease Luke in, or a goalie depending how Blackwood looks this year
We have RD depth though
Hamilton, Marino, Smith.
It just seems silly to lose Damon for nothing just for one playoff push, when I doubt having Smith there being responsible defensively for a young player would be much worse. Plus then youd have Brendan on his opposite side

I dont wanna acquire anyone with term for the left side. Guys gotta grow into a role.
Not many teams have top4 quality depth waiting in the wings in case one of the actual top 4 get injured. After thinking about it I actually don’t think Severson is worth trading right away unless it’s part of a package for the type of forward we are in need of. A few picks is not gonna cut it considering we don’t have anyone that can fulfill his role this coming season, especially if Dougie or Marino get injured.
I can agree with this sentiment but how I see it thisAfter thinking about it I actually don’t think Severson is worth trading right away unless it’s part of a package for the type of forward we are in need of. Brendan Smith is an extra defensemen type. There are going to be injuries which then blows what paper depth that is to pieces. We have RD depth though

We should be past the point of wanting to collect first round picks (and I’m not sure he even has 1st round pick value). It’s time for the organization to do something, which means keeping guys who can actually help in the near term. If he walks next year, fine the internal replacement (Nemac) should be ready.
They trade him and are competitive, guess what then they are probably looking to acquire a Damon Severson type at the deadline. Start the year with him and see how things play out. If the kids absolutely push and show they are players you can deal him mid-year to open up spots.
I think we gave up the third, not received one. Would be awesome if we got that though…The fact that we also get a 3rd makes it better haha. A+ fitz
That ball tingling feeling is back.
B Smith was just a solid contributor on a playoff team. I have no qualms with Smith as our 3rd pair RHD.Brendan Smith is an extra defensemen type. There are going to be injuries which then blows what paper depth that is to pieces.

My thoughts exactly. He’s a solid 3rd pairing guy.We didn't sign Smith to a 2 year deal to be the 7th dman. He's gonna play. He's fine for the bottom pairing.
don't worry that's Ottawa this year. I can only imagine they're about to find out what that really means.Next year's draft is pretty strong, might be smart to lock up a top pick now with another good trade
