If Bratt files for arbitration yes. But it seems like a lose/lose situation....by that I mean at the end of the day we'd most likely be left with no Severson, Bratt or Tkachuk.
How much longer would we control Bratt's rights if he were to file for arbitration?

Yes

No but the assets at the TDL probably gains them a 1st and a prospect. So it's basically Bratt+1st+B level prospect for Chucky. I think that's a pretty good return for them. Also depends on whether they plan on competing or not.
I think Gaudreau moving on has some thing to do with Tkachuk possibly leaving. It wasn’t the major reason for bolting , but I think Gaudreau asked him what his future is in Calgary. It would have played a factor with Gaudreau trying to decide what to do. But then again he was an idiot and chose Columbus for who knows what reasons , so he might not have even talked to Tkachuk and his plans .
I just have a feeling that Tkachuk will get traded . Calgary can’t afford to lose another elite player and get nothing in return. The Flames learned the hard way that they cannot let their star players get to UFA. They will try to sigj him long term and if he won’t ….. he ass is gone.
Not sure if it will be now or at the TDL but if he doesn’t extend , he is traded 100% .

Everyone is aware that you can negotiate a contract with a player up until their arbitration hearing actually happens, right? That a player files for arbitration does not automatically mean there will be a hearing and a decision.

I can’t believe any of you guys wouldn’t want Nylander. The only reason I’d be wary is the lack of term on his deal…but the actual player? Sign me up for 30+ goals and point per game production.

Palat-Nico-Nylander
Sharangovich-Hughes-Bratt

That would be a nasty top 6.

Laine isn't filing for arbitration. That's pretty interesting. Sounds like they are close enough on a deal.

Tomorrow will be telling with Bratt.

Same as now, two years I believe.
Same situation as Tkachuk ?
I love Bratt and it would massively suck to trade him. Amazing player . But if he dicks around amd wants to walk himself to UFA , then I think you almost have to move him.
Im not saying that is what he is doing or wants to do. Just that if he does , then he is moved while we can get maximum value. Even then , I don’t think we would “win” and trade movig Bratt .
About the only player I’d be okay with in return would be a player like Tkachuk.
Hoepfuly he signs soon and all the worry about him is out to rest.

I think we still will at some point at least for a short stint. In the case of injuries he’s probably one of the first callups.

On the not here’s how I’d imagine our Utica D group looks until injuries:

Bahl/Okhotiuk-Nemec
Wotherspoon-Walsh
Vukojevic-Russo
Groleau

Exactly how I drew it up.

Like minds.......

I see 2 legit concerns.

1)Yes he is talented but don't we want to get a bit stronger up front? And with Sev's not being on the market why not try to get a more physical top 6 guy?

2)Nylander is a UFA after the 23-24 season. So again why not try to acquire a guy with more years under team control.

I don’t think we’re getting a player that checks all of those boxes and also has term in a Severson deal. It’s probably a deal for futures or a player in a comparable contract situation.

One takeaway from this deal is that not only should Marino be Severson's replacement moving forward, but he kind of resembles Damon... Marino just has curly hair, but they both have the same exact smirk

I can't be the only one seeing a slight resemblence, right?

If the best we can do is futures I don't even bother until the TDL. Keep the incredible D depth to try and make a playoff push.

Cash out if we are too far out

Im okay with that but if we do keep Severson for a push, he still needs to be dealt at the deadline. In which case thatd look pretty bad wouldnt it?

Moving him before October is probably best so you arent disappointing the team when you, inevitably, have to get the 1st+ value for him

Agree keep Sev's and you "run the risk" of being in a playoff race and not being in position to trade him.

If he's not a guy we are looking to keep long term, then move him out now.
