Regarding the whole drafting a LHD and needing RHD thing. Didn't Smith play a decent amount on his offside in the past. I feel like we discussed this during the preseason?

I see no reason why you can't have two top pairing LD and have a couple of Severson level guys on their right.

I think that would work just fine.

Plus you would expect Power or Hughes to be better then Smith and be on the first pairing anyway.

Dont think Hamilton fits the timeline well enough to sign long-term

Id sooner sign Adam Larsson or fish for David Savard

You don't move him and f*** with his development at all. It doesn't matter if it has potential to pay dividends, he is already so good and still flashing you don't f*** with that at all imo.

He's one of the best puck movers in the whole league. Our biggest defensive issue is actually getting the puck out of the zone, better out let passing helps that. How many times a game do we create a forecheck for the other team because we have bad breakout passing.
Oh, I'm just asking the questions. I'm terrible with contracts for the most part.

Breakout passing is nice, but I feel like our biggest problem is discipline in the defensive zone. We end up chasing, and when that happens all our guys end up on the same half of the ice, leaving the back door open. Someone's GOT to have the discipline to stay back and cover the off-wing sneaking down instead of having the whole team chasing the guy with the puck like a bunch of mites on ice.

Loading up the left side is totally fine, the problem is we have 3 prospects on the left with solid chance of becoming top 4 LD and another 4 who most likely are bottom paring guys. The right we have a bottom pair PP specialist in Walsh and MAYBE McCarthy can be a #4 getting carried by a much stronger LD partner. It's bad assets management. But if it comes down to getting one of Power or Hughes you don't pass on them.

I don't think we would have anyone near Power or Hughes level. Don't think we have anyone near Smith's level either.

Chasing is more so an issue of being a young inexperienced team. Watch Vegas or Colorado and you will see the drastic difference between getting the puck out of the zone and the effect it has on the actual defense. It's a ripple effect that improves your forwards and goalies performance.

Yup, Kulikov was effective because he consistently moved the puck out of the zone and up the ice.

Yup if we can get one of power or Hughes they would instantly become our top LD prospect which could make one of our other LD prospects expendable in a trade to get a winger or swap for rd prospect

I agree, although I think if Mukhamadullin hit's he will be a down right dominant player. My point more so I personally feel if you are deciding between Clarke or Hughes and have them both equal you take Clarke because it is much better resource management and a bigger need. I don't want to argue over who's a better prospect, just my though process.

Or maybe coaching? (I'm a big Nas hater, sorry)
