Does NJ need to keep him for the expansion draft or will Dell work for that? I'm skeptical any team offers a second for Wedge but that would be hard to turn down.

Cormier works for that, without even getting extended. Devils don't have to worry at all.

Nobody is giving up a 2nd for Wedgewood.

See, that's where you're wrong. I'd consider it. My second was a good defender and a very good shot suppressor, and an Academic All American in high school. That said, he's off to college now and not around much so I don't know if I would feel better if we could swap him for Wedgewood and have Wedge move into my son's room. It would be contingent on Wedgewood agreeing to clean his room however.

What I got from the article:

Palmieri will be traded - almost 100%
In UFA, Palmieri will be open to coming back, but Fitz will want him at a bargain price, and other teams will have a chance to outbid us.

This is why negotiations happen and why players have agents to mediate with the GMs.

Palms would want a certain number, Fitz would want a certain number...

..and it's up to the agent to help bring Fitz's number as close to Palms number as possible, then make a decision then.

Wedgewood is another guy that can get us a 2nd round pick. he's pitching .920 this season and is making $700k. For a team that needs a reliable backup going into the playoffs, that's golden.

Dont forget Stanley Cup winner added to his resume :sarcasm:

Evan Cormier is on a pro contract and fully meets expansion draft requirements. Wedgewood and Dell don't need to factor in at all, unless NJ chooses to sign them prior to the expansion draft.

Me: your house is on fire

Person whose house is on fire: no, it's not

Me: no no, I know that's your house, and I know what a fire looks like

Person whose house is on fire: but the guy who runs the stats department at the housing authority told me the house was made of sturdy materials which would not burn down

Me: well, maybe they should have actually looked at your house? Because it's right there, and it's on fire.

Person whose house is on fire: no it's not, leave me alone

***two weeks later***

Person whose house was on fire: my f---ing house burned down! Why didn't anyone tell me it was on fire?

It’s does seem very unlikely that palmieri gets resigned. Seems like he’s going to want a sizeable raise in money and term and I don’t think it’s a good idea to give him that considering his age and recent play. I think fitz will be careful not to give him a contract that could be very bad in the future with all the young players we have coming up and there could be some good trade offers for him it sounds like.

With the uncertainty of this years draft rankings I wonder if there is going to be more draft steals in the mid rounds like the 3rd to 5th round. Everyone will be at a somewhat disadvantage with certain players not playing much this year. Should be an interesting draft to follow. I can understand wanting picks for the 2022 draft more but if this was ever the year to find some steals in the later round I would suppose this would be it.

More opportunity for draft misses. Scouts are going in nearly blind.

So as the reality of the TDL approaches, I see this season's team as different from last season's team. Last year, it seemed to me none of the young players had hit their stride or were close to hitting it with the exception of MBW. This season, I've seen improvement from Sevs, Zacha, Jack, and the team has gotten really good play from rookies including Smith, Maltsev, Shara, Kuokkanen, Bastian. Some of the guys may be uneven like MBW and Bratt but nothing I've seen suggests they lost all their talent as opposed to normal ups and downs of young players or maybe a covid hangover. To the extent the team has had success it's largely been carried by the young guys. I'm thinking maybe it's worth keeping the cradle around them the rest of the way. I'm not turning down a great trade offer but I probably wouldn't go all flailing inflatable tube waving arm man either. I think NJ should give these young players a chance to succeed. Look at Kuokkanen and Shara last game. Would it be the worst thing in the world to finish the season with Zajac? Would it be the worst thing in the world to let Zajac play out his deal with NJ and treat him kindly as an organization? Would it be a totally gross waste of assets keeping at least one of Murray or Kulikov around to work on a second pair so there is some veteran stability around Smith on the left side? For the first time in years, at least we may see some light at the end of the tunnel as far as turning over the team. It's best players are now its young players and more are on the way. Despite whatever disgrace the team has become, I think this group of young players should be reasonably supported if possible rather than just thrown into the deep end. Just my thoughts and others will see it differently.

I bet that nobody gives Palmieri term and significant salary raise. I highly doubt that gross value of this contract gets near 20M.

COVID + meh season + style that doesn't scream efficient player in his 30s

Johnsson is playing 10 and half minutes a game over his last 7. He set Maltsev up with a prime opportunity last game. Not a player I care about right now. Hope he can figure it out, I won’t be rooting against him as many are.
